Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has described the recent kidnapping of 39 students and seven teachers in the state as a major test for his administration`s security systems. He stated that the incident exposed gaps in how the state protects its citizens.

THENEWSCREDIT reports that the governor made this statement on Tuesday while receiving an official report from a special panel. The government set up the Judicial Commission of Inquiry to investigate how the mass abduction happened and how security agencies responded.

The leader of the panel, Professor Mojeed Owoade, submitted the final report to the governor at the government house. The document outlines what went wrong and offers solutions to prevent future attacks.

The incident happened on Friday, May 15, when gunmen invaded communities in the Oriire Local Government Area. The attackers took 46 victims, including schoolchildren and their teachers, into the forest.

The victims spent a harrowing 10 weeks in captivity before security forces successfully rescued them. After they were freed, Governor Makinde set up the panel to find out the truth behind the security failure.

Governor Makinde admitted that while his administration has invested heavily in security tools like emergency toll-free lines and control rooms, the attack showed that more work needs to be done. He promised that his government would not hide behind past achievements.

The governor promised the public that the government will fully implement the panel`s recommendations. He stressed that the safety of children will guide all future security decisions in Oyo State.
