The Lagos State Police Command has arrested and initiated disciplinary action against an officer caught on camera claiming that an Igbo person, including Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi, would never rule Nigeria.

In a statement released on Friday, the command`s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, officially identified the embattled officer as Osumah Frank.

The arrest follows widespread outrage triggered by a viral video showing Officer Frank in full uniform asserting that no individual from the South-East region could ever attain the Nigerian presidency.

SP Adebisi strongly distanced the institutional authorities from the viral remarks, emphasizing that Frank’s comments were entirely his own and did not reflect the values of the law enforcement agency.

“The remarks made by the officer were made in his personal capacity and do not represent the position, views, or official disposition of the Lagos State Police Command or the Nigeria Police Force,” the statement read.

The spokesperson further disclosed that the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, has ordered immediate internal disciplinary proceedings in accordance with the established regulations of the Force.

CP Fatai reiterated that all personnel are strictly mandated to maintain professionalism, civility, and respect for all members of the public, warning that the uniform carries a high standard of accountability.

“Wearing the Police uniform comes with the responsibility to uphold the dignity and integrity of the Force. The command will not condone any conduct capable of bringing the Force into disrepute or undermining public confidence in the Police,” the command stated.
