A cloud of grief has enveloped Akure, the Ondo State capital, following the tragic discovery of three young siblings—including 11-year-old twin brothers—found dead near a riverbank on a farm close to the Owena Army Barracks.

The victims have been identified as 11-year-old twins Joshua and Jacob Jonah, and their five-year-old younger sister, Blessing Jonah.

According to local sources, the children had accompanied their father, Samuel Jonah, to his farm on Friday, September 4, 2026. Trouble began later that afternoon when the siblings reportedly set off ahead of their father to head back home. Upon returning home later that evening, Mr. Jonah discovered that none of the children had arrived, sparking an immediate and frantic search.

The agonizing search came to a grim end on Saturday, September 5, when search parties discovered the lifeless bodies of the three children clustered near the bank of a small river flowing through the farm area.

The Ondo State Police Command has launched a full-scale investigation into the heartbreaking incident. Confirming the tragedy, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Jimoh Abayomi, stated that while the exact cause of death is still being determined, the bodies of the children have been released to the devastated father for burial.

"The Ondo State Police Command confirms the tragic loss of three siblings at a farm located around the Owena Army Barracks, Akure, on 4th September 2026," Abayomi said in an official statement. "The victims reportedly accompanied their father to the farm. They later left for home but went missing before reaching their destination. We are currently documenting the incident and investigating the exact circumstances surrounding these painful deaths."

The incident has thrown the immediate community into deep mourning, as neighbors and relatives gather to console the grieving father over the sudden loss of three of his children in a single day.
