In a case that has shocked the local community, the Carnarvon Regional Court has sentenced a 22-year-old man to 20 years of direct imprisonment. The lengthy prison term was handed down following his conviction for the brutal sexual assault of his own mother inside her home.

The horrifying incident occurred on November 23, 2025, while the 42-year-old victim was asleep. According to court records, the woman and her partner had been drinking earlier in the evening before retiring for the night. The household security was shattered later that night when her son returned to the residence.

Prior to the attack, the accused had also been consuming alcohol at a friend`s house before heading back to his family home. Upon entering the house, he discovered his mother and her partner fast asleep. Capitalizing on their vulnerable state, the young man proceeded to sexually assault his mother while she was completely unconscious.

The victim tragically woke up during the assault and immediately realized the horror of what was happening to her. After she bravely confronted her son in the middle of the act, the perpetrator fled from the house into the night. Shaken by the encounter, the woman immediately woke her partner to report the devastating incident.

The couple wasted no time and reported the matter to the local police, leading to the immediate arrest of the suspect. National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Mojalefa Senokoatsane stated that the accused initially denied the allegations in his first police statement. However, forensic evidence would soon dismantle his fabricated defense.

State prosecutors utilized advanced forensic technology to secure undeniable DNA evidence that linked the 22-year-old directly to the crime scene. Faced with the overwhelming scientific data and the mother`s compelling firsthand testimony, the defense strategy collapsed.
