A horrific incident has thrown the quiet community of Awi in Akamkpa Local Government Area of Cross River State into deep mourning following the violent killing of a 20-year-old man, Uwem Daniel Akpan. The young man lost his life prematurely after a heated verbal disagreement with a teenager degenerated into a physical attack. The local community has been left in shock over the sudden escalation of the minor dispute.

The fatal confrontation reportedly reached its boiling point at approximately 7:30 p.m., when the standard verbal exchange rapidly turned violent. According to local sources, the suspect weaponised a sharp object during the physical struggle, inflicting catastrophic stab wounds on Akpan. Witnesses at the scene quickly intervened to halt the violence, but the victim had already sustained critical injuries.

Following the horrific assault, eyewitnesses and good Samaritans rushed the heavily bleeding Akpan to the Naval Reference Hospital in Calabar in a desperate bid to save his life.
