A horrific tragedy has thrown the Osaa Ukwu community in Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State into deep mourning following the brutal murder of a popular local trader by her son. The suspect, identified as Livingston Nwakanma, allegedly attacked his mother with a machete on Saturday before attempting to flee the area.

The victim, Mrs. Nwaigbe Nwakanma, popularly known in her community as Daa Nwaigbe, was a well-known and highly respected trader in the village market. Her sudden and violent death has sparked widespread outrage and grief among residents who knew her as a peace-loving woman.

THENEWSCREDIT revealed that the deceased was in her kitchen preparing ingredients to make soup when the tragic incident occurred. Without any provocation, Livingston reportedly stormed the kitchen armed with a machete and launched a fierce attack on his unsuspecting mother.

The intensity of the machete attack resulted in the instant death of the elderly woman in her kitchen. Realizing the gravity of his actions, the suspect immediately fled the scene, leaving his mother`s lifeless body behind, which threw the entire neighborhood into chaotic mourning.

Following the discovery of the crime, THENEWSCREDIT reports that the youth vanguard of the Osaa Ukwu community quickly mobilized and launched a manhunt for the fleeing suspect. Their efforts paid off hours later when they successfully tracked down and apprehended Livingston, preventing him from escaping the locality.

Family members have attributed the suspect`s violent outburst to long-standing battles with substance abuse and severe mental illness. Community sources confirmed that Livingston was a known drug addict whose behavior had become increasingly erratic and volatile over time.

Confirming the devastating loss, the distraught husband of the deceased, Dede Nwakanma, wept bitterly as he lamented the cold-blooded murder of his life partner. The grieving father further disclosed that his son had been showing progressive signs of mental instability for the past four years without adequate intervention.
