The Federal Government is planning a landmark defense policy to allow journalists to accompany troops during active frontline operations.

The initiative aims to curb misinformation, boost transparency, and give citizens direct insight into counterinsurgency efforts.

The Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Musa, announced the strategy on Thursday in Abuja.

Speaking through his Special Adviser, Rear Admiral Olusanya Bankole, at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) National Security Summit, Musa stated that closer collaboration will enhance national security.

Musa noted that modern warfare extends far beyond physical combat zones.Information and public narratives now heavily influence the success of military architectures.

The defense ministry hopes that embedding reporters will eliminate the conflicting reports that fuel public skepticism.

The minister described the media as critical stabilizers of government.

He explained that military success is measured by both tactical victories and citizen confidence.

The proposed plan addresses long-standing media complaints regarding restricted access to conflict zones.
