FG Declares Friday, June 12, Public Holiday To Mark Democracy Day

 The Federal Government has declared Friday, June 12, 2026, a nationwide public holiday to commemorate this year’s Democracy Day.

The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the official declaration on behalf of the government. He congratulated all Nigerians at home and abroad on celebrating another democratic milestone.

In his statement, the Minister honored the sacrifices of Nigeria`s democratic heroes. He emphasized that the day serves as a reminder of the resilience and unity required to sustain the nation`s freedom.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo urged citizens to reflect on the country`s progress and remain committed to democratic ideals. He also assured the public that the government remains focused on securing lives and boosting economic growth across all sectors.

The declaration provides a three-day weekend for public servants, private sector workers, and students nationwide. Normal business operations and school activities will resume on Monday, June 15.
