The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, has donated ₦100 million and a brand-new Toyota Hilux operational vehicle to support the Iru Ekun Security Network, a community policing initiative founded by Yoruba nation agitator, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho.

The monarch announced the donation on Tuesday during a courtesy visit by Igboho and his team to the royal palace in Ile-Ife, Osun State.

A formal statement issued on Wednesday by the palace’s media department, signed by Sodiq Lawal on behalf of the Director of Media and Public Affairs, Moses Olafare, confirmed the development.

The statement read, “The Permanent Chairman of the Southern Nigerian Traditional Rulers Council (SNTRC) and the Natural Head of the Oduduwa race worldwide, the Ooni of Ife, has donated the sum of ₦100 million and a brand-new Hilux vehicle to support the operations of the Iru Ekun Security Network, a community-based security initiative established by renowned Yoruba Nation advocate, Chief Sunday Adeyemo (Sunday Igboho).”

Oba Ogunwusi commended Igboho for his proactive stance on regional safety, stressing that securing local communities is vital for economic and social growth.

“I commend Chief Sunday Igboho for taking a bold step towards strengthening community security," the Ooni said. "Protecting our people is a collective responsibility that transcends political, religious, and ideological differences. Every initiative genuinely designed to preserve lives and maintain peace deserves encouragement and support.”

The first-class monarch further called on all Southwest stakeholders—including traditional rulers, business executives, and professionals—to rally behind the security outfit to ensure regional peace.

“Our strength lies in our unity. When we speak with one voice and work together, no force can undermine the peace and progress of Yorubaland," the Ooni added.

In his response, Sunday Igboho expressed deep gratitude to the traditional ruler, describing him as a visionary leader and the ultimate father of the Yoruba race.

“The Ooni is the father of all Yoruba people worldwide. His love for the Yoruba nation, humility, and kindness distinguish him. I have come to receive his royal blessings as we continue our mission of protecting our people,” Igboho stated.

Igboho revealed that the visit served to brief the Ooni on the operations of the Iru Ekun Security Network and to seek his royal guidance.

He also disclosed advanced plans to host a comprehensive Southwest Security Summit at the Ile-Ife palace. The upcoming event will bring together traditional rulers from across the region to engineer practical, grassroots solutions to ongoing security challenges.
