Public universities across Nigeria face another imminent shutdown as the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has threatened to withdraw its services without further notice.

The union issued the warning in a statement signed by its National President, Christopher Piwuna, following an emergency National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held at the University of Abuja.

According to the statement, the looming industrial action stems from the government’s failure to fully implement the December 2025 agreement, which took over eight years to negotiate.

Key grievances driving the fresh agitation include the non-payment of 3.5 months of withheld salaries and the failure to remit billions of Naira in deductions already made from lecturers` earnings.

ASUU warned that it should not be held responsible for the disruption of academic calendars if the federal and state governments fail to take immediate steps to address the welfare of Nigerian academics.
