The Kwara State Government has announced the successful release of 176 people who were abducted during a deadly February 2026 attack on the Woro and Nuku communities in Kaiama Local Government Area.

The state government shared the update on Wednesday via its official Facebook page, expressing gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, national security forces, and all stakeholders involved in the rescue operation.

"Alhamdulillah and kudos to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, security forces, and everyone who played a role in this huge feat. We are grateful," the statement read.

The victims had been taken hostage during a highly coordinated assault by Boko Haram-linked extremists, who invaded the rural communities on motorcycles. The original attack is regarded as one of the deadliest in Kwara State`s history, resulting in over 200 fatalities, widespread destruction of homes and businesses, and the mass displacement of local residents.
