The siblings met their untimely deaths on Tuesday night while standing as a human shield between their helpless community and murderous gunmen. The victims, who routinely risked their lives so others could sleep in peace, were ambushed under the heavy cover of darkness and killed on the spot.

The tragedy struck at exactly 10:47 p.m., a time when most residents were locked in their homes, relying on the local vigilante team for protection. The attackers, armed to the teeth, reportedly sneaked into the community and opened a rain of bullets on the security volunteers who were conducting their night patrol. By the time the echoes of gunfire faded into the night, three pillars of the same family lay lifeless in pools of their own blood.

The victims have been identified as Dachung Danjuma, 51; Victor Danjuma, 37; and Nyam Danjuma, 35. Neighbors described the scene as an unbearable sight of horror, watching three brothers who grew up together, worked together, and protected their land together, perish together in a single moment of savagery. Their community now mourns them not just as victims, but as martyrs who paid the ultimate price for the survival of their people.

"They were keeping watch over the community when the gunmen suddenly attacked them," wept Lyop Bitrus, a traumatized community member who witnessed the aftermath. "Sadly, the three brothers were killed on the spot. They sacrificed their lives while protecting the community." Bitrus’s voice cracked as he recounted the bravery of the brothers, whose final acts were defined by selflessness and an unyielding love for their homeland.

The emotional weight of the tragedy falls heaviest on the young family of 37-year-old Victor Danjuma, who is survived by his wife and five young children. In a cruel twist of fate, Victor’s wife and kids had only recently fled the area following a vicious raid on the neighbouring Tan Jol community. They were reportedly preparing to return home this week, believing that security conditions had finally improved, only to receive the heartbreaking news that their protector was gone forever.

Condemning the incident, Rwang Tengwong, the spokesperson of the Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM), described the killings as completely heartbreaking and deeply destabilizing for the region. Tengwong lamented the persistent, unprovoked assaults on vulnerable settlements in Riyom and other parts of Plateau State. He expressed deep frustration that despite endless cries for help and repeated meetings with authorities, rural families are still left at the mercy of roaming killers.
