IBADAN, Nigeria – The Nigerian gospel music community was plunged into deep mourning on Sunday, March 1, 2026, following the sudden passing of Taiwo Adegbodu, one half of the iconic musical duo, the Adegbodu Twins.

The news of his demise sent shockwaves across social media early Sunday morning. His twin brother and lifelong ministry partner, Kehinde Adegbodu, confirmed the tragic loss through a heart-wrenching post on their official platforms.


In an emotional tribute, Kehinde expressed his utter devastation, writing:
"TAIWO, why will you leave me and your kids without notification? My heart is bleeding... God why? This is too much for me to bear!!!"

Born in Oyo State, the Adegbodu Twins rose to national prominence in 1999 with their debut album, Faratimi (Lean on Me). Over nearly three decades, they became household names in the Yoruba gospel scene, known for their synchronized stage presence and spirited worship sessions.


Their extensive discography includes several hit tracks and acclaimed albums: "Adura Mi Gba," "Bojuwomi," "Emi Mimo," "Igbagbo Dun," and "Carry Body" (featuring Mike Abdul and Esther Igbekele).

Beyond their music, the duo`s impact was recognized by the government; they were appointed as Special Advisers on Entertainment and Tourism in Osun State by Governor Ademola Adeleke.

Colleagues and fans have flooded social media with condolences. Prominent gospel figures, including Esther Igbekele, have expressed their shock at the "dark Sunday" for the industry. Fans described Taiwo as a "legend" whose music provided solace and hope to many.

As of this report, the cause of death has not been officially disclosed by the family. Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced following private family consultations. Taiwo is survived by his wife, children, and his twin brother, Kehinde.
