The Yobe State Police Command has arrested an 18-year-old housewife for allegedly mutilating her husband’s genitals with a sharp object during a domestic dispute in Potiskum Local Government Area of the state. THENEWSCREDIT learnt on Monday that the incident occurred on Friday, leaving the victim critically injured. The command’s spokesperson, Dungus Abdulkarim, told THENEWSCREDIT in a telephone conversation that officers responded to a distress call and found the man lying in a pool of blood inside his room. “On February 6, our policemen responded to a distress call that a man was found lying in his room in a pool of blood. We rushed to the house and could not find anybody, so we immediately took him to a clinic for treatment and later referred him to the Azare Medical Centre for further treatment,” he said. According to the police, the suspect fled the scene after the attack but was tracked and arrested on Monday. “At the moment the wife fled, we could not get her until early this morning. She has been arrested, and we are investigating to determine what transpired to the extent of her using a sharp object to cut off her husband’s manhood,” Abdulkarim added. The police spokesperson said the husband identified his wife as the attacker, but had yet to give a detailed statement due to the severity of his injury. “We have not been able to get any statement from the husband due to the pain from the injury he sustained,” the spokesperson said. He noted that further updates would be provided as investigations continue. The incident adds to growing concerns over cases of domestic violence resulting in serious injuries or deaths. In March 2025, THENEWSCREDIT reported that the Lagos State Police Command arrested a man, Peter Dike, for allegedly stabbing his wife to death during a heated argument at their residence in the Oke-Ira Ilogbo Eremi area of the state.

Survivors of the recent terrorist attacks on Worro and Nukku communities in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State have appealed to their abductors to release their wives and children as the Ramadan fasting period approaches. The affected residents made the plea while speaking with journalists during a visit to the devastated communities by the senator representing Kwara North Senatorial District, Sadiq Umar, on Sunday. According to the survivors, there is no one left to support them at home, particularly with cooking and other preparations for the fast, following the abduction of women during the attacks. “We are appealing to both the government and the attackers to release our wives and children in the spirit of Ramadan,” one of the residents said. The villagers disclosed that the attackers, who reportedly killed over 170 people and abducted more than 100 others, mostly women and children, have not made any ransom demands since the attacks. Residents also revealed that many families are yet to rebuild their burnt and destroyed homes, with most victims currently squatting with relatives or seeking refuge outside the area. Speaking on the situation, the village head of Worro, Alhaji Umar Bio Salihu, said the community is grappling with a severe lack of basic infrastructure, particularly drinking water, due to the destruction of electricity facilities. “There has been no water since electricity was destroyed. Without power, we cannot pump water. It was the senator who donated a generator to enable us to pump water. During the burial of the dead last Wednesday, we had to travel for over an hour on a terrible road to Kaiama to get water,” he said. Alhaji Salihu added that insecurity remains the community’s biggest challenge, noting that many residents have fled. “There are limited people left in the community. Many have relocated elsewhere. The only thing that will make people return is adequate security. Even those still here may leave at any time,” he warned. Due to the level of destruction, the village head’s palace—normally used for community meetings—was damaged, forcing residents to receive the visiting senator under a tree. During his visit, Senator Sadiq Umar toured the affected communities to assess the level of destruction and visited a mass gravesite, where over 150 victims were reportedly buried. Prayers were offered for the deceased. The senator assured residents that efforts were ongoing to restore peace and rebuild the communities, while calling on the Federal Government to improve road infrastructure in the area urgently. “With these bad roads, before help can arrive, hoodlums would have already caused untold damage,” Umar said. He also suggested that the government should consider converting parts of the Kainji National Park into an agro-industrial zone as a long-term strategy to curb banditry. As part of immediate relief efforts, Senator Umar distributed palliatives and cash support to victims and urged residents to remain hopeful, vigilant, and cooperative with security agencies by providing timely intelligence to help safeguard lives and property.

ABUBAKAR Abdullahi, one of the seven suspects arrested by the Oyo State Police Command in connection with the attack on and killing of five forest rangers at the National Park Service office in Oloka Village, has revealed how he was invited by one Mohammed Dangi, whom he described as the second-in-command of the bandit gang, to participate in the deadly operation aimed at freeing three Fulani herders earlier arrested for an offence yet to be disclosed. A look at the suspect’s petite figure, tiny face and youthful appearance could easily make him pass for an innocent boy who would not hurt a fly. Beneath that exterior, however, is a young man proficient in handling AK-47 rifles, shooting with precision and confidence. The five forest rangers were killed on Tuesday, January 6 2026, at the National Forest Rangers’ office in Oloka Village, Ikoyi Ile, Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State. The attackers, said to be about 10 in number and armed with sophisticated firearms, reportedly invaded the Old Oyo National Park office at about 9pm and launched a deadly assault on the rangers. Not satisfied with the killing of the five forest rangers, one of whom was burnt beyond recognition, the assailants also went away with two FNC rifles and three motorcycles, while two other motorcycles were set ablaze. Confirming the arrest of the suspects in a statement, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, disclosed that following the attack, the Monitoring Unit of the command, led by its commander, CSP Ayodeji Adepetu, was directed by the Commissioner of Police, Femi Haruna, to take over the investigation. According to him, intelligence-driven operations led to the initial arrest of three suspects, followed by four others, bringing the total number arrested to seven. The suspects include Mohammed Dangi, said to be the gang’s coordinator; Abubakar Abdullahi, Sheu Usman, Toro Malami, Usman Alhaji Umaru, Laolo Muhammadu and Usman Alhaji Isah. Speaking in an interview, Abubakar, a Fulani man who claimed Yahuri in Kebbi State as his place of origin but said he resides in B’Olorunduro, Ogbomoso, stated that he was a herder who also engaged in kidnapping alongside other members of the gang. “I don’t know how long I have been in B’Olorunduro. I herded cows from Bode Saadu in Kwara State down there,” he said. Explaining what led to the attack on the forest rangers and how the operation was carried out, Abubakar disclosed: “It was Mohammed Dangi who invited me. He instructed me and others to kill all the people we saw at the park office. The reason he gave was that three Fulani herders had been arrested. He told us to set our three men free after killing the forest rangers. After killing those rangers, we released our people and took them away. “I did not know when the idea was first discussed, but I joined the gang on the day we went to carry out the attack.” On how the gang gained access to the park office, which is surrounded by thick bush, without being detected before striking, he said: “We were 10 in number. We went with five motorcycles and five AK-47 rifles. Two of us rode each motorcycle. We also carried explosives. We parked the motorcycles far away and quietly trekked to the park office.” He identified one Bello, currently at large, as the leader of the gang, stating that Mohammed served as the executor of Bello’s directives. “Bello and I once lived together in Bode Saadu, but I don’t know where he is now. He only gave instructions to Mohammed and did not come with us to Oloka Village. He was the one who gave Mohammed the AK-47 rifles we used. Bello usually joined us during kidnap operations,” he said. On how long he had been involved in kidnapping, Abubakar said he could not remember, noting that he had been doing it for a long time. He recalled participating in kidnappings in Oloka Village and Bode Saadu, adding: “Whenever I was called for a kidnap operation, I always went.” Despite his involvement in what the gang considered a means of livelihood, Abubakar said his share of ransom from kidnapping operations was always N10,000. When pressed to speak the truth, he swore by Allah that he had never received more than that amount. A security source corroborated his claim, explaining that members of kidnap gangs, bandits and terrorist groups are often subjected to extreme exploitation by their leaders. “From our experience during investigations, we have learned that even when they rustle cattle, they may give one cow to five people and still compel them to sell it back to the leader at a ridiculously low price, sometimes not more than N40,000. They dare not protest or ask questions, except they want to die. The leader also does not pay cash; instead, he tells them to collect goods and direct traders to him for payment. That is the kind of slavery they gullibly submit themselves to,” the source said. Asked how he became skilled in handling an AK-47 rifle despite his small stature, Abubakar said, smiling: “I was trained by Mohammed Dangi. I know how to use the rifle very well.” On whether the gang killed kidnap victims whose families could not afford ransom, he said it was the leaders who made such decisions. “It is not my wish to kidnap people, but Mohammed is my relative. I grew up with him, and he made me join the gang,” he added. DSP Ayanlade stated that operatives of the Monitoring Unit, in collaboration with other security agencies, are intensifying efforts to track down the remaining suspects and bring them to justice.

The Police Command in Ondo State says it has arrested a 40-year-old landlady, Nafisat Lateef, in connection with the alleged poisoning of her tenant’s three-year-old son in Odigbo Local Government Area of the state. DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the command’s Spokesperson, made this known in a statement on Friday in Akure. Jimoh said the incident was reported on Thursday, Feb.5 at the Odigbo Police Division by the victim’s mother, Rofiyat, aged 32, both residents of Omifon, Odigbo. “According to the report, the incident occurred on Wednesday Feb.4 at about 8:30 a.m., when the suspect allegedly gave the victim identified as Abdulrasheed, a liquid substance suspected to be poisonous. “The act was reportedly carried out following a misunderstanding between the complainant and the suspect, who is the complainant’s landlady. “Shortly after consuming the substance, the child began vomiting and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where he received medical attention. “Police detectives, during a swift and intelligence-led operation, arrested the suspect. In the course of investigation, the detectives also recovered the liquid substance,” he said. Jimoh, who said the suspect was currently in police custody and had made useful statements, explained that investigation was ongoing, and the case would be charged to court upon its conclusion. The spokesperson also said the state Commissioner of Police (CP) advised residents to avoid landlord–tenant disputes, and warned that such disagreements often led to poor coexistence, and could escalate into criminal acts. He, therefore, reassured members of the public that the command remained readily available to respond promptly to all complaints and was fully committed to ensuring justice in all cases. “In conclusion, CP Adebowale Lawal urged the good people of Ondo State to remain law-abiding and to continue cooperating with the police by providing timely and credible information. “The information will aid crime prevention and the protection of lives and property throughout the state,” he said

The Oyo State Fire Service has recovered the corpses of a 30-year-old man, Shina Adedeji, and another 45-year-old man, whose name was withheld, from two separate locations in the state. One of the victims was trying to rescue a goat when he was trapped in the well. The Special Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on Fire Reforms and Chairman of the state Fire Service, Moroof Akinwande, disclosed this in a statement issued in Ibadan, the state capital, on Tuesday. He explained that while Adedeji fell into a well at the Aaje Ikose area of Ogbomoso in Ogbomoso North Local Government Area on Tuesday, the second corpse was recovered from a deep well at the Mokola area of Saki in Saki West Local Government Area on Monday. The man in the Saki incident was trying to rescue a goat when he met his death. Akinwande said, “The agency received a distress call on Monday at exactly 10:23 pm through a running caller and Yusuf Ismail that someone had fallen into a well at the Mokola area of Saki. “Fire officers, led by PFS II Kolade Taiwo, promptly mobilised and responded to the scene. Upon arrival, it was discovered that a man of about 45 years was trapped inside a deep well. “Our officers quickly swung into action, secured the area with the necessary equipment, and successfully recovered the man from the well. “The incident occurred when the man willingly entered the well in an attempt to rescue a goat, during which he became trapped.” On the Ogbomoso incident, Akinwande said, “On February 3, at exactly 9:45 am, we were summoned to a rescue operation by a running caller and CFM Adeleke at Aaje Ikose area of Ogbomoso. “The firemen, led by CFM Oladejo, promptly moved to the scene. On arrival, it was discovered that a man of about 30 years old, named Shina Adedeji, had fallen into a well and was recovered by officers of the agency. “The casualty was trapped in the well, which contained ammonia gas, while attempting to retrieve a fetcher,” he said. The chairman, therefore, warned members of the public to always prioritise their safety in their daily activities, noting that life has no duplicate. In a similar occurrence on January 25, 2026, THENEWSCREDIT reported that the Oyo State Fire Service Agency recovered the body of a 33-year-old man from a deep well at a Rain Oil Filling Station in the Alakia–Adegbayi area of Ibadan, Egbeda Local Government Area of the state. Investigations revealed that the incident occurred at about 10:30 a.m. when the victim, whose name was withheld, reportedly entered an abandoned well to clean debris and became trapped.

A distraught father, Henry Airenekhuemen, has called for a thorough investigation into the death of his son, Mattias, who reportedly drowned in a swimming pool at Signatious Hotel in the Ajao Estate area of Lagos State. In an interview with our correspondent on Monday, Airenekhuemen said Mattias had attended a poolside event at the hotel on Saturday evening, where he was selling tickets to earn some income. He explained that his ordeal began when one of Mattias’ older brothers alerted him that the young man had been rushed to Isolo General Hospital and that the family was urgently needed. “I was told that my son had been taken to Isolo General Hospital. When I got there, I was shocked to see his lifeless body inside the vehicle that brought him,” Airenekhuemen said. According to him, inquiries at the hospital revealed that Mattias was said to have drowned in the hotel’s swimming pool. He recounted what he was told by a friend who accompanied his son to the venue. “The friend said Mattias was with him and a lady. About five minutes after leaving them, he tried calling Mattias, but there was no response. When he returned to where they had been sitting, the lady told him Mattias had stepped away, even though his phone was still there, charging,” he narrated. Airenekhuemen said it was during a search for Mattias that his body was allegedly discovered inside the swimming pool. However, the grieving father expressed doubts about the drowning narrative, citing what he described as suspicious physical observations. “If he actually drowned, why was his stomach not bloated? And why was there foam coming out of his mouth and nose?” he queried. He said the incident was promptly reported to the police, who visited the hospital, documented the scene, and transferred the body to the morgue. Officers later accompanied the family to the hotel to inspect the premises. During the visit, Airenekhuemen said concerns were raised over the absence of a pool supervisor or professional diver at the time of the incident, but no satisfactory explanation was given. He disclosed that three individuals are currently in custody at the Ajao Estate Police Division in connection with the case. “The hotel manager was invited and asked to provide CCTV footage, but he claimed he had just resumed work. He is being detained. The lady who was with my son has also been detained after giving her statement, as well as the friend who said he found my son in the pool,” he said. The father also alleged that certain developments deepened the family’s suspicion surrounding the death. “One of my sons received a call from someone who claimed to be a hotel staff, asking what we wanted to settle the matter. Also, the pool party continued that same night, even after my son was found dead in the pool,” he lamented. Efforts to obtain a response from the Lagos State Police Command were unsuccessful. Calls to the Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, were not answered, and a text message sent to her had not been replied to as of the time of filing this report.

An 85-year-old woman, Mrs Henrietta Fawehinmi, has asked a Rivers State High Court sitting in Port Harcourt to order her son, Professor Hakeem Fawehinmi, to return the original title documents of her properties in the state. Professor Fawehinmi is a former Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) of the University of Port Harcourt and currently the Vice-Chancellor of a university in Abuja. Mrs Fawehinmi’s request follows a suit with number PHC/4500/CS/2025, filed by Professor Fawehinmi and one of his siblings, challenging the ownership of a landed property located at Orominike Layout, D/Line, Port Harcourt. In her statement of defence and application to be joined in the suit, Mrs Fawehinmi asked the court to also direct her son to release the original title documents of properties located at No. 24 Nwachukwu Street, Iboloji Housing Estate, Rumuigbo; No. 17 Emenike Close, Rumuadaolu; and Elekahia Housing Estate, all in Port Harcourt. She said she had paid him ₦82 million, as stated in a letter dated July 10, 2025, as a condition for the release of the documents. Professor Fawehinmi and his sister, Oluwafumi Fawehinmi, had filed the suit against one Ichie Ikenna-Onu, who purchased one of the disputed properties from their mother. The siblings argued that the sale was invalid and claimed that Ikenna-Onu had no legal right to own the property. The claimants, listed as first and second claimants in the suit, said that at a time, their late father, their mother, Professor Fawehinmi, and other siblings were directors of Riettafa and Company Nigeria Limited. They also claimed that their mother later made a will giving the properties to her five children and appointed Professor Fawehinmi as attorney over her estate. However, Mrs Fawehinmi denied the existence and validity of the will, saying she revoked all deeds of gift to her children after the properties became a source of constant conflict and division among them. In her defence, she alleged that her first son abandoned her in her old age and pressured her to transfer the properties to him during her lifetime without caring for her. She further claimed that despite sponsoring his education and establishing a hospital for him in Port Harcourt, which she said he later sold, he failed to support her. She also alleged that her children, especially the first and second claimants whom she sponsored abroad, neither gave her money nor took care of her, but were instead focused on fighting over her properties. Mrs Fawehinmi further claimed that Professor Fawehinmi, who she said is not a director in her company, removed her as a signatory to the company’s bank account and made himself the sole signatory, thereby denying her access to her own company account. She insisted that all the properties involved in the case, including plots 178, 179, and 201 at Orominike Layout, D/Line, which she sold to Ichie Ikenna-Onu, belonged to her personally and not to Riettafa and Sons Nigeria Limited. Mrs Fawehinmi told the court that she would only stop selling her remaining properties if her children reconcile, resolve their long-standing disputes, reunite as a family, and begin to care for her as their mother. Meanwhile, the first defendant, Ichie Ikenna-Onu, in his statement of defence, denied knowledge of the claims made in paragraphs one to twenty-three of the claimants’ statement of claim and asked the court to dismiss the suit, describing it as a “gold-digging” exercise.

Tongues are wagging in Bargu, a community in Awe Local Government Area, Nasarawa State over the confession of a 40-year-old housewife, Mrs Esther Jemkwe, who slept with her 23-year-old stepson because she was desperate to produce a child for her husband. Esther said she hit on the idea of sleeping with the only child her husband, Audu Jemkwe, had from a failed marriage he had before they met because she realised that he became impotent a few weeks after they got married in 2022. Our correspondent gathered that before 51-year-old Audu’s marriage to Esther in 2022, he had been involved 27 years earlier in another marriage that was blessed with a son named Theophilus before it collapsed and they parted ways. Theophilus, however, chose to stay with his father. It was gathered that before his second marriage in 2022, Audu, a carpenter by profession, was sexually very active, which was one of the reasons he chose to remarry. Theophilus, on his part, was an automobile mechanic and, like his father, had no meaningful education. Trouble began after Esther got married to Audu only to find that her once virile partner had lost his potency. Recalling the shocking discovery, Esther said: “His manhood stopped functioning the moment I moved into his house. We did everything humanly possible to revive it but to no avail. I was worried, but I could not discuss it with anybody because it is embarrassing.” Recalling the good memories of their earlier days together, she said: “We bonded together and were in love. He proposed marriage to me and we agreed to it. We planned towards a particular date. “What attracted me to him was that he was very good in bed and he satisfied me sexually. “Honestly, apart from his caring nature, his performance in bed was among the factors that attracted me to him. “I am the only daughter of my parents, and they are no longer alive. They died during the farmers/herders crisis in Nasarawa. “I had difficulty getting a husband while I needed to get married to have a rest of mind since we lived in a village where herders disturb often. But the people who kept coming were only interested in sleeping with me until Mr Audu Jemkwe, a carpenter, came with genuine intentions and we made it. “So, moving into his house, my dream was to have children. Jemkwe (Audu) was sexually fit until we got married. But shortly after, his manhood started failing. I became worried because he became impotent. “I endured this for over year and kept hoping that the problem would go away, but months passed and the situation did not improve. So I decided to inform his first son.” From Esther’s discussion with Theophilus who practices his vehicle mechanic in Lafia while Esther was a trader, buying and selling goods between Awe and Lafia, the state capital, a relationship developed between the two. Given the mutual feelings shared by the two, they did not see any reason why they could not engage each other instead of going outside, especially as Theophilus shares the same blood with her husband with whom she was now living like cat and dog after orthodox and traditional efforts made to fix his impotence failed. The situation resulted in accusations and counter-accusations between the couple. Putting the blame on her husband, Esther said that while she was willing to approach a soothsayer to ascertain what was wrong with Audu, he on his part was not favourably disposed to the idea. She believes that Audu knew the source of the problem but chose to hide it from her. But to be doubly sure that the problem did not lie with her, Esther decided to test her own virility by luring her husband’s son into a secret affair with a stem warning not to reveal it to anyone. Investigation revealed that their intimate affair lasted the entire Year 2025. Each time Esther came down to Lafia for her business, she would pass a night at Theophilus’ place. The reason, she said, was to ascertain her ability to conceive a baby, because she needed a child badly and age was no longer on her side. After frequent visits to Lafia, Esther eventually missed her period, signaling that she was pregnant. But when she broke the news to her husband, what ordinarily should be a piece of good news became a source of quarrel. Audu vehemently denied ownership of the pregnancy and also alleged foul play. He said since they got married, there had been no intercourse between them because his manhood had been down. The angry husband, accusing Esther of infidelity, asked her to pack her things and move out of his house to live with the man responsible for her pregnancy. Pressured by our correspondent, Esther eventually opened up to tell her own side of the story. She said: “I am not a loose woman. I am just a woman who loves her husband very much and didn’t want to lose him. I did what I did to save my marriage even though I feel guilty about it. “It was not easy, but I slept with his first son from his first wife so that I could give my husband a child. But rather than sustain my marriage, the plan has scattered it. “I got married to my husband over four years ago. We had no child. The worst was that I never got pregnant even for one day, because we were not mating. He is impotent. “When I realised that I was no longer getting younger, I was worried as much as he was. His relations became so impatient that they started breathing down my neck. “They gave me no breathing space at all. They said I was cheating on their son and that I had no womb to bear a child. They did not know that their son was impotent. “The mother decided to move in to live with us in Awe and practically made life in my matrimonial home unbearable for me. “At a point, she stopped talking to me. The only time she would talk to me was when she wanted to insult me and remind me of how less a woman I was. “I was confused. More so when my husband kept mute and refused further efforts to ascertain the source of the problem. “But any time I was in Lafia with Theophilus, we used to have serious lovemaking sessions, especially during my ovulation period, all in a bid to get pregnant so that my mother-in-law would stop humiliating me. “Luckily, God answered my prayers “I was moved to continue my affair with Theophilus in Lafia because the insult from my mother-in-law was getting too much, too unbearable for me. She vowed to frustrate me out of her son’s home, not knowing their son was impotent. “It is so agonising to say this. Instead of testing someone else to ascertain my fertility, I seduced and slept with his son. Theophilus is a young man in his early 20s.He had not started sleeping with women before I lured him into making love with me. “I started by buying good things for him anytime I went to Lafia, sleeping with him on the same bed and playing with his manhood. Gradually, one thing led to another. “There was a time I asked him if he had tested sex before and he said no. I wondered why a 23 years old boy had not known a woman. I compelled him to take an oath not to disclose it to anybody, and I said I would teach him. “I ensured that I did that during my ovulation period. I never disclosed the reason for this, but deep in my mind, I wanted to test my fertility. “I planned it during my ovulation. In fact, any time I was in my ovulation period, I ensured I visited him in Lafia where he works as a mechanic. “I had the key to his room and most people thought I was his mother. “I knew I was doing the wrong thing and betraying my husband, but I saw it as a necessary action to save my marriage. “I didn’t want to go sleeping with another man outside. I knew it was wrong, so I preferred it from his son. After some months, I discovered that I was pregnant.” Now that the deed had been done and her husband has sent her packing from their matrimonial home, she said she would do nothing else but try to reassemble the pieces of her broken life and move on. She has since relocated to Lafia to continue with her business. Although she regrets her action, she said she had decided to keep the pregnancy “because it is blood within blood”. Lamenting the incident, Audu said: “I know where my problem came from. A man in my village whose wife I dated for years before I got married is behind my predicament. “I was lucky that he allowed me to produce a child with my first wife. But he has vowed that I would not give birth. “He got me through my old shoes. And when my manhood stopped functioning, I consulted a native doctor somewhere without my wife knowing. That was shortly after I got married. “The native doctor told me everything, that the old man I was dating his wife in the village was the brains behind my sudden impotency. He advised me to go and beg the man. I did, but the man is yet to forgive me. “At first, he denied responsibility but later accepted and told me he would look into it. “I’m confused about my life. My dream of getting married to bear children that will add to Theophilus was aborted, “I am the only male child of my parents and they are old. In fact, my father is not alive, though he warned me against my affairs with women before he died. “Yes, I asked my wife to pack and leave my house. She has since moved to Lafia. “People are telling me that since she did it with Theophilus who is my son, I should consider her decision and allow her. “I’m still thinking about it.” Contacted, Theophilus admitted having such an affair with his father’s wife. But he said “it is a family matter that will be settled with time”.

A Lagos-based husband and wife, identified simply as Fred and Goodness, have been arrested for allegedly orchestrating a fake kidnapping and extorting N10 million from their relatives and associates. Police sources disclosed that the couple reportedly staged the abduction on January 7 as part of a plan to raise funds to enable the husband return to the United States, after financial backing from sponsors failed to materialise. According to a source familiar with the investigation, the suspects contacted members of both families and close friends, claiming they had been abducted and demanding ransom for their release. Believing the story, the families reportedly mobilised N10 million within three days to secure their freedom. “The so-called kidnapping was deliberately planned by the couple. The husband wanted to travel back to the U.S. but lacked funds. When expected support did not come, they jointly decided to stage the abduction to raise money,” the source said. Further details revealed that the suspects agreed on a location at a school in Cappa, Mushin, where the ransom was to be dropped. However, operatives monitoring the area became suspicious when the woman entered the premises alone and the man arrived separately shortly after. “Their movements raised red flags. Both later came out together carrying a bag. When operatives stopped and searched them, the ransom money was found inside, leading to their immediate arrest, ” another police source said. During questioning, the woman reportedly admitted encouraging the scheme, while investigations later confirmed that no kidnapping had taken place. Confirming the development, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Addebisi, said the suspects would be charged to court after investigations are concluded.

Both died, leaving their three surviving children, who suffer from sickle cell disorder, in urgent need of care. The victims, Mr. Lekan Adedeji and Mrs. Zainab Adedeji, had been married for over 25 years. Family members revealed that domestic violence was recurrent in the home, and the couple were unaware they were carriers of the sickle cell trait, which contributed to the deaths of three of their six children. Speaking to THENEWSCREDIT, Morufat Ashake, the younger sister of the deceased woman who has taken custody of the children, described the harrowing events. She explained that the fatal weekend began in December last year when the husband lured his wife under the pretext of providing funds for her daughter’s school fees. Upon arrival, he allegedly forced his daughter to take the youngest child outside before pouring acid on his wife and drinking it himself.
