The Leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele, has warned President Bola Tinubu that US President Donald Trump is plotting to remove him from office. In a statement signed by his media aide, Osho Oluwatosin, Primate Ayodele made it known that the US President has ‘caged’ Tinubu and his plan is to ultimately see that he is removed from office. He stated that the support the US is giving Nigeria to fight insecurity is only to find ways to penetrate the government. “Trump is adamant to remove President Tinubu. America will be part of those who will be against Tinubu. You may not see it as I am being shown, and that’s why I am saying Trump is after removing Tinubu, that’s it and nothing more,” the cleric said. The prophet alleged that the ulterior motive of the US President is not about ending insecurity in Nigeria. “Nigeria will still continue to fight insecurity, but either they fight it or not, Trump is focused on removing Tinubu from office, but he doesn’t know it yet. “He isn’t after ending insecurity in the country, he knows what he wants and won’t stop at nothing towards achieving it.” He urged Tinubu to take a bold political step to overcome the plans of the US President, warning that otherwise, Trump will end up succeeding with his plans. “Tinubu must take a very bold step to overcome the plans of Trump, because he has caged him already. “Tinubu must not relent his efforts and bring up strategies for him to succeed otherwise, he would be at the losing end while his defeat would be celebrated.”

Several petroleum products depot owners and marketers in Nigeria have increased their ex-depot petrol price over the alleged planned shutdown of Dangote Refinery’s petrol unit for maintenance and upgrades. A check by our correspondent on Saturday showed that major depot owners are now selling prices around N800 per liter, up from between N740 and N780. This is the case in Ranoil, Optima, AYM Shafa, and other depots, while Dangote and Aiteo sold N702 and N740 per liter. The latest ex-depot price hike is linked to the reported planned turnaround maintenance at the Dangote Refinery. Speaking on the plan, Devakumar Edwin, Vice President of Dangote Industries, explained, as reported by Platts (S&P Global): “In most departments, our production levels have gone beyond 100 percent. We just need to remove constraints to raise overall output.” Meanwhile, retail fuel prices stood between N739 and N910 per liter across major filling stations in Nigeria as of Saturday afternoon.

The Islamic State of West Africa Province, ISWAP, has continued to wreak havoc on Christian communities in the Northeast, Nigeria. This comes as ISWAP burned down a Christian village in Adamawa State. A security expert, Brant Philip, disclosed this on Thursday in a viral video released by the terrorists. “ISWAP released an image of one of the Christian villages in Adamawa State burning, alongside a statement saying that all Christians in Nigeria are legitimate targets, and they have an opportunity to “spare their blood” by converting to Islam or paying the jizyah tax to ISWAP,” Brant Philip wrote on X. The move is perceived as retaliation for recent joint airstrikes by the Nigerian and United States military against a terrorist enclave in Sokoto, Nigeria. Recall that five days ago, United States President Donald Trump announced that the US military launched airstrikes against terrorists in Sokoto State.

The Central Bank of Nigeria has said that the country’s inflation would moderate to 12.94 percent in 2026, pushed by declining prices of fuel and food. CBN disclosed its macroeconomic outlook for Nigeria in 2026, released on Wednesday. According to the apex bank projections, the economy of Africa’s most populous country is expected to grow by 4.49 percent. CBN hinged the expected growth rate on continued gains from broad-based structural reforms and a gradually easing monetary policy stance. “Headline inflation is projected to moderate to an estimated average of 12.94 percent in 2026, driven by declining food and premium motor spirit (PMS) prices,” the apex bank said. Recall that last week, Nigeria witnessed several drops in fuel prices owing to an ongoing price war in the country’s oil downstream sector. Dangote Refinery reduced its gantry petrol price drastically to edge out petrol marketers, leading to fuel prices hovering around N739 and N910 per liter nationwide. November’s 2025 National Bureau of Statistics inflation data said Nigeria’s food inflation dropped to 11.08 percent.

The Aniwo 1 of Aafin community, Ile-Ire District, Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, Oba Simeon Olaonipekun and one of his sons, Olaolu, who is currently observing his National Youth Service Corps, have reportedly been kidnapped in a violent attack on the palace. Our correspondent reports that the incident occurred late on Wednesday night, on new years eve, when a group of about eight gunmen allegedly stormed the palace around 8pm, shooting sporadically and demanding to see the monarch and his wife. A family source who was inside the palace when the attack unfolded told THENEWSCREDIT via telephone on Thursday that panic ensued as the assailants opened fire. “Around 8pm, I noticed some strange movements outside and I immediately alerted those inside. We started locking all the doors and switching off inner lights, but when they realised what we were doing, they began shooting sporadically,” the source said. The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the gunmen forced their way into the palace by breaking down the door with guns and demanded to see the Oba. “They are about eight in number because I saw them from where I was hiding. They used their guns to break down the door, gained entrance and requested for the Kabiesi, and he came out. “They were asking for his wife too, but she has been hit with a bullet in the arm, during their attempt to gain entrance” the source said. The assailants also seized one of the monarch’s sons who came out from hiding with the Olori (queen), the source added. “We were about 10 in the palace around that time to come spend the holiday with Kabiesi, so everyone was hiding during the incident. One of the sons who was with the Olori came out to avoid casualties as they were shooting and breaking down doors,” he said. He added that the leader of the attackers spoke very good English and appeared to be targeting the monarch and his wife specifically. “The leader of the kidnappers spoke good English and the only thing they were asking is the Kabiesi and when he came out, they were asking for his wife too. “After they left, we quickly took the Olori to the hospital yesterday night,” the source said. He said the town vigilante could not repel the attackers, as only two members were on duty as of the time. “The town vigilante could not do much because they were two that came out that time and they couldn’t match the firepower of the assailants. “We have not heard anything from them since they left with the Oba and his son. We are appealing to the government and security agencies to come to our aid,” the source said. The source also disclosed that the matter was reported to police divisions in the area on the night of the attack. “When we left Aafin last night, we made a report at the Owu Isin Divisional Police and also when we got to Ijara Isin, we informed the police there too. The joint local security network at Ikosin was also informed, and also the Kabiesi of Oke Aba,” he said. Contacted on Thursday, the Kwara State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, said the command was aware of the incident, but said details were still being collated. “I will get in touch with you immediately, once I have detailed information about the incident,” she said. The reported abduction comes amid a disturbing rise in insecurity in Kwara State, particularly in Ifelodun and other rural communities. In late November, bandits abducted the Ojibara of Bayagan-Ile, Alhaji Kamilu Salami, from his farm in the same local government area, sparking fear and condemnation across the state. The monarch was held in captivity for weeks before being released after community-led negotiations and payment of a substantial ransom. Security analysts say the frequency of kidnappings, attacks on worshippers and assaults on rural leaders points to an escalation of banditry and criminal activity in forest-border communities of Kwara. Recent data reveal scores of abductions and killings linked to armed groups operating along the state’s borders with Niger and Kogi states, as well as internal flashpoints within Ifelodun, Patigi, Edu, Ekiti, Isin and other local councils.

Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, SAN, has told the Federal Government why the new tax law cannot take effect. Addressing newsmen at his Ilawe-Ekiti hometown on Wednesday, Falana said until the controversies surrounding the legitimacy of their provisions, occasioned by allegations of insertion, are addressed, the new tax laws cannot take effect According to him, the federal government should have used the last few days of 2025 to address the issue and make clean copies of the new tax laws available before January 1, 2026. “If that was not done, the government would put itself in trouble by deciding to implement the laws. There are interest groups ready to challenge the legitimacy of the laws,” he said. Recall that President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday said there is no going back on the January 1, 2026 implementation of the tax laws. The senior lawyer, however, stated that the laws could not take effect until the controversies surrounding their legitimacy were resolved.
