The African Democratic Congress, ADC, has tackled the Federal Government for shutting down schools over insecurity. Speaking in an interview on ‘Politics Today’, a programme on Channels Television monitored by THENEWSCREDIT on Wednesday, the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Bolaji Abdullahi said the move showed the government was no longer capable of protecting the schools. “But for us, we are worried because let’s take the issue of the schools that we have closed. “When you close schools because bandits could go and kidnap children, what you are saying is, ‘I’m no longer capable of protecting my schools.’ “And don’t forget the ideology of Boko Haram is that Western education is forbidden. So by shutting down schools, you are reinforcing the Boko Haram ideology,” he said. The ADC’s mouthpiece added that President Bola Tinubu has begun to take the recent steps to address the security challenges because of the threat of the US President Donald Trump. He also refuted allegations that the ADC was fueling insecurity in the country and lobbying the US against Nigeria. Recall that the schoolgirls, who were kidnapped during an attack that left the Vice Principal, Malam Hassan Makuku, dead, on November 17, regained their freedom on Tuesday. Former Osun State Governor, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, has said that a final decision on the political platform Governor Ademola Adeleke will use for his 2026 re-election bid will be taken when the governor returns from an overseas trip. The Peoples Democratic Party, Southwest Zone, on Sunday lauded Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, for rescuing the party from aggressors determined to hold the largest opposition party by the jugular. PDP Southwest Zonal Publicity Secretary, Chief Sanya Atofarati, also commended PDP governors for standing firmly with the party to reposition it for victory in future elections. Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has dissociated himself from the position of expelling the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Minister, Nyesom Wike, from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. The PDP expelled Wike, and a former governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, from the party, for anti-party activities. The party also expelled the National Secretary of the party, Samuel Anyanwu, and eight others. The party took the decision at the national convention currently taking place in Ibadan, Oyo State. THENEWSCREDIT reports that the party unanimously voted to expel them for anti-party activities and fostering disunity with series of litigation against the interests of the party. The national convention, which is currently holding at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Ibadan, has delegates from 17 states across the country in attendance. A chieftain of the PDP, Bode George, moved the motion for the expulsion of 11 key members, citing what he described as activities inconsistent with the party’s collective interest as reasons for the move.

The Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang, has distanced himself from the Peoples Democratic Party’s decision to expel the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike; former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose; and several other party leaders. In a statement issued on Saturday by his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere, the governor clarified that the issue was never discussed by the PDP Governors’ Forum or the National Executive Committee before the motion for expulsion was presented. He stressed that the proposal does not reflect his position. The statement read, “The Executive Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang has formally distanced himself from the expulsion of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and former Governor of Rivers State, Barr. Nyesom Wike, former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, and Senator Samuel Anyanwu, alongside other leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).” Mutfwang reiterated that the matter was neither deliberated upon by the Governors’ Forum nor the NEC before being brought to the convention floor.
