Tragedy as Gunman Opens Fire at Kano Wedding, Kills One and Injures Three Over Loud Music

A joyous marriage ceremony turned into a scene of bloodshed in Kano State when a gunman opened fire on guests, leaving one person dead and three others seriously injured. The Kano State Police Command confirmed the tragic incident, which occurred at the Tudun Yola quarters. According to CSP Abdullahi Haruna-Kiyawa, the command’s Public Relations Officer, security forces have arrested the prime suspect, 34-year-old Rabiu Mukhtar, along with one accomplice. Police operatives also recovered the weapon used in the attack—a pump-action rifle—from the suspect`s possession. Preliminary police investigations revealed that the deadly shooting was triggered by a heated argument over the playing of music at the venue, which some individuals strongly objected to. The suspect, Mukhtar, reportedly told police investigators that he opened fire after receiving information that suspected local thugs, popularly known as "Yan Daba," were heading to the venue to cause trouble. The gunman fired directly into a crowd of four people. The victims were quickly identified as:Aliyu Mustapha (Deceased) Sadiq Abubakar (Injured) Umar Rabiu (Injured) Muhammad Sadisu (Injured). All four victims were rushed to the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital in Kano for emergency medical attention. Police confirmed that Aliyu Mustapha tragically succumbed to his injuries, while the remaining three victims are currently stable and responding to treatment. The suspects are currently detained at the state police headquarters in Bompai. CSP Haruna-Kiyawa assured members of the public that a thorough investigation is underway and that the suspects will face prosecution as soon as the investigation is concluded.
