OGBOMOSO — A devastating street race between two student drivers ended in horror this morning at the New Wazo Market Area of Ogbomoso, leaving four people dead and several others critically injured.

The incident, which occurred during the early morning rush, has thrown the entire community into deep mourning and sparked intense outrage among local residents and traders.

According to eyewitnesses, the two students were engaged in a high-speed competitive race along the busy market road. While attempting to outmaneuver each other near the market roundabout, both drivers lost control of their vehicles.

The cars veered violently off the road, plowing directly into a cluster of roadside shops where traders and customers had gathered for morning business.

Four individuals were confirmed dead on the spot due to the impact of the crash.

Bystanders scrambled frantically to overturn the wreckage to rescue trapped victims.

Several other people inside and around the shops sustained severe, life-threatening injuries.

Men of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and local police teams arrived swiftly at the scene to restore order and manage the chaotic aftermath. The injured victims and the remains of the deceased were immediately evacuated to the Bowen University Teaching Hospital in Ogbomoso for urgent medical treatment and mortuary deposit.

Angry youths and market traders have strongly condemned the illegal street racing, demanding stricter traffic law enforcement around school zones and public markets. Meanwhile, local police authorities have commenced a full investigation into the crash to ensure the reckless drivers face prosecution.
