TENSION IN OYO: Igboho Gives Fulani Residents 2-Hour Ultimatum Over Abductions

Published on Sat 20 Jun 2026

Yoruba nation activist Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has issued a strict two-hour ultimatum to Fulani residents in Igboho town, Oorelope Local Government Area of Oyo State, to produce recent kidnap victims or face severe consequences. The sudden directive follows a spike in violent crimes, including the alleged abduction and killing of local residents. Community leaders fear the development could reignite severe ethnic clashes in the Oke-Ogun region.

Triggering Insecurity and Violent Killings

The ultimatum comes on the heels of a renewed wave of violence in the Oke-Ogun axis. Local sources revealed that the threat was triggered by the brutal abduction and subsequent killing of a pregnant woman and another resident.

In a disturbing twist, the intermediary negotiating their release was also murdered by the armed bandits after delivering the ransom money. This incident triggered widespread outrage in the community, prompting Igboho to intervene directly.

The Strict Ultimatum

In a broadcast circulated widely on Saturday, June 20, 2026, Igboho demanded that the Fulani community within the locality actively identify the criminals among them and ensure the safe return of any surviving captives.

Produce the perpetrators or reveal their hidden forest camps.

Failure to comply within the two-hour window would result in direct, unspecified "consequences" from his security loyalists.

Igboho reiterated that while peaceful residents are welcome, local communities will no longer tolerate active elements harboring forest-bound terrorists.

Historic Context and Rising Precedent

This is not the first time the activist has taken drastic measures regarding regional security:

January 2021: Igboho rose to national prominence after issuing a similar seven-day eviction notice to herdsmen in the Ibarapa zone following the killing of prominent local figures.

May 2026: Following the mass abduction of 39 schoolchildren and 7 teachers in Oyo State, Igboho urged the Federal Government to fast-track the legal registration of his proposed civil defense outfit, the Iru Ekun Security Network.

Security Forces on High Alert

The brief, two-hour deadline has sent shockwaves through Oyo State, creating anxiety among both indigenous Yoruba populations and settled Fulani families. State authorities and regional security outfits, including the Amotekun Corps, have reportedly reinforced deployments to prevent the outbreak of vigilante violence and maintain law and order.
