The Nigerian Law School campus in Victoria Island, Lagos, is in mourning following the death of a 23-year-old student, Faith Alayande, after a fatal fall from a four-storey hostel building.

The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Friday, August 7, 2026, has been confirmed by the Lagos State Police Command.

According to the State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, the situation came to light after a hostel mate and a relative discovered a note believed to have been written by the deceased. A search was launched to locate Alayande, but she was found unresponsive on the premises shortly thereafter.

“I can confirm the incident," PPRO Adebisi stated. "The deceased reportedly left a note and was found after falling from the rooftop of a four-storey building.”

Adebisi added that police officers visited the scene shortly after the hostel’s matron reported the matter. Alayande`s body was evacuated and moved to a morgue for preservation and further examination.

Security analyst Zagazola Makama also reported on X (formerly Twitter) that the body was discovered on the hostel grounds by another student, who immediately alerted the institution`s management.

The Chief Matron of the Law School, Mrs. Igbokwe Juliana, formally lodged a report at the Victoria Island Police Division at approximately 6:30 AM. Preliminary observations suggest the injuries were consistent with a fall from height.

The Lagos State Police Command has stated that the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the authenticity of the recovered note, remain under active investigation.
