Operatives of the Edo State Police Command have arrested a 57-year-old man, Kadiri Edenokun, for allegedly defiling his six-year-old stepdaughter at Jattu, Auchi, in Edo North.

The command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Eno Ikoedem, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday, September 16, 2026. According to the PPRO, the suspect has confessed to committing the crime multiple times during police interrogation.

"The child is currently receiving medical treatment under the care of the Ministry of Women Affairs, Edo State," Ikoedem said. "The suspect remains in police custody and will be charged to court upon conclusion of the investigation."

In a separate development, the command announced the recovery of a black Toyota Highlander (Registration No: LSR 729 HY), which was the second of two vehicles stolen during a robbery at the Benin City residence of Hon. Kennedy Odion, the state chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), on September 6, 2026.

Acting on credible intelligence, operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit tracked and recovered the SUV along 3rd Cemetery Street, off New Lagos Road, New Benin. The police noted that efforts are still underway to apprehend the fleeing perpetrators and recover other stolen items.

Reacting to the incidents, the Edo State Commissioner of Police, CP Patrick Daaor, issued a stern warning that the command will not tolerate acts of sexual violence, particularly against children.

CP Daaor urged parents and the general public to remain highly vigilant and report suspicious movements, stressing that anyone found culpable of child abuse or sexual assault will face the full weight of the law.
