The Senate of Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU), Anyigba, has expelled six 100-level students caught rewriting a course examination at a lecturer’s private residence.

The university Senate also suspended and referred the lecturer, Dr. Maji Okpanachi of the Department of Plant Science and Biotechnology, to the Senior Staff Disciplinary Committee for appropriate sanctions.

The incident, which occurred on July 1, 2026, came to light following a security tip-off. University security operatives raided Dr. Okpanachi’s residence, located behind the Police Area Command Office along Idah Road in Anyigba.

Security personnel caught the students mid-exam and recovered incriminating exhibits from the scene. Investigation reports revealed that each student paid N10,000 to the lecturer to participate in the illicit rewrite.

University spokesperson, Mrs. Uredo Omale, confirmed the developments in an official statement following the 167th Regular Meeting of the university Senate.

"The Examination Misconduct Committee confirmed the security report through confessional statements made by the lecturer and the students involved," Omale stated.

The six expelled students, all from the Department of Plant Science and Biotechnology, were identified as: Itodo Ojonugwa Jeremiah; Olooh Kizito OjoajogwuOkpanachi Favour; Abdulkadiri Senusi; Umar ImranLawrence Salami.

In a separate development during the same Senate sitting, the institution purged nine other students from its rolls.

Six students were withdrawn for failing to register for two consecutive academic semesters. Three additional students faced academic withdrawal due to prolonged poor GPA performance.

The university management reiterated its zero-tolerance policy toward academic dishonesty, vowing to maintain strict ethical standards for both staff and students.
