A horrific tragedy has thrown the Ore community in the Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State into profound shock and tension, following the brutal murder of a 60-year-old woman, Mrs. Olufunke Akuade, allegedly by her own son.

The 23-year-old suspect, Samuel Akuade, reportedly attacked his mother with a cutlass on Sunday at their family residence located in the Powerline Axis along the Ore–Okitipupa Road.

According to local sources, the victim suffered horrific, deep machete wounds during the unprovoked assault and died on the spot. The motive behind the gruesome killing remains unknown.

The Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, Abayomi Jimoh, confirmed the incident, stating that the suspect fled the scene initially but has since been apprehended after a swift manhunt by law enforcement operatives.

"The Command received a report that the deceased was found lying in a pool of blood at her residence," Jimoh said. "Preliminary information revealed that the victim had sustained deep machete cuts and was already dead when she was discovered."

Police operatives from the Ore Division responded to the scene, secured the area, and recovered the machete used in the attack. The case has now been officially transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Akure for a comprehensive homicide investigation.

Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police for Ondo State, CP Felix N. Ohagwu, ordered a thorough and professional investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the matricide. He assured residents of the state`s commitment to safety and urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the authorities.
