President Bola Tinubu has announced that the Federal Government will soon publish a detailed account of how funds recovered from the petrol subsidy removal are being utilized.

Speaking to THENEWSCREDIT on Thursday at the State House during a meeting with the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), the President defended his administration`s economic policies and highlighted massive infrastructure projects funded through long-term financial engineering.

The President recalled his frank engagements with NUPENG before the 2023 elections, noting that he had made his stance on the unsustainable subsidy regime clear despite threats of industrial action.

"I served notice: you may strike or you won’t, but the fuel subsidy will be gone," Tinubu stated. "And today, to the benefit of our great country, I will soon publish the utilization of what it is."

Tinubu pushed back against critics claiming his economic reforms have failed ordinary Nigerians. He argued that regular salary payments made possible by the subsidy removal directly sustain the working class and stimulate local trade.

Regular monthly salaries are now guaranteed for workers at local, state, and federal levels, a change expected to boost businesses for market women and traders nationwide. President Tinubu emphasized that the economy is a system of financial engineering and research rather than a "church play."

The President revealed that the fiscal discipline from the subsidy removal allowed the government to secure funding for critical national transport arteries, including the Lagos-Ibadan, Abuja-Kaduna, Abuja-Kano, and Sokoto-Badagry highways.

Turning to energy alternatives, Tinubu urged NUPENG to ensure the cost benefits of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) reach everyday commuters. He expressed dissatisfaction that the financial gains of CNG are currently concentrated among truck owners rather than trickling down to the public.

Commending NUPENG as a critical partner in national progress, the President pledged continuous engagement with the union to refine energy and economic policies.
