A father of 11, Lawal Hamisu, has dragged his daughter, Fatima Lawal, before a Shari’a Court II sitting at Magajin Gari, Kaduna, over her inability to produce a suitor and get married. Speaking through his counsel, H.B. Debo, Hamisu expressed deep frustration that his 27-year-old daughter—who recently completed her Higher National Diploma (HND)—continues to entertain multiple admirers without selecting a serious marriage partner. The aggrieved father accused his wife of manipulating their children against him, stating, “She should get a suitor, present him in court, and the court should marry her off since her mother has poisoned their minds against me.” In her response, Fatima defended herself by stating that she currently lacks any serious marriage prospects. While she acknowledges having admirers, she told the court that none of them has officially proposed marriage to her yet. The presiding judge, Malam Yakubu Abdullahi, described the lawsuit as highly sensitive given the direct family ties involved. To properly mediate, the judge announced plans to hold private, one-on-one sessions with both the father and daughter to offer appropriate guidance. The case has been adjourned until August 3, 2026, for a formal ruling.
