Popular Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, widely known as Portable, has opened up about his difficult upbringing, revealing how he hawked sachet water to self-fund his education.

Speaking on The Honest Bunch Podcast, the musician shared that he lacked financial sponsorship during his early years. This financial hardship ultimately forced him to pause his formal education to fend for himself.

"I no finish school; the time wey I dey go school, I sell pure water, I no see anybody to sponsor me," Portable stated in the video released by Glitch Africa Studios.

The singer also reflected on his position within his family. He claimed that while his father sponsored his siblings` education, he was largely left to cater for himself. Due to his academic struggles at the time, he was viewed as the "olodo" (the dull one) of the household.

Despite those early labels, Portable highlighted how his financial situation has completely reversed. He noted that he has now assumed the responsibility of supporting his entire family.

"My papa send my brothers and sisters go school, na me be Olodo but now, na me dey feed all of them," he expressed.

The artist remains optimistic about his academic future. He expressed a strong determination to return to the classroom and complete his higher education, identifying himself as a student of Kwara State Polytechnic.
