A 25-year-old man has been beaten to death during a turbaning ceremony in Yobe State. The incident was contained in a post shared on X by security analyst Zagazola Makama. According to the post, the victim, identified as Maina Jano, was attacked during a turbaning ceremony held at Barwa Fulani settlement in Kafetuwa, Karasuwa Local Government Area of the state. The incident reportedly happened at about 11:50 p.m. on December 26, 2025, while youths were taking part in a Shadi competition during the turbaning ceremony of Lamido Alhaji Kunjo. Makama stated that Jano, who was from Nassara Fulani settlement in Kumaganam, Yusufari Local Government Area, was allegedly beaten by an unidentified man during the event. He sustained serious internal injuries as a result of the attack. He was rushed to the General Hospital in Kumaganam for treatment but later died from his injuries.

World-renowned boxer Anthony Joshua was involved in a road accident today in Makun, Ogun State. Eyewitnesses report that the incident occurred along a busy highway of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway around past 11am on Monday. The vehicle carrying Joshua, a Lexus Jeep with the number plate, KRD 850 HN, reportedly collided with a stationary truck under circumstances that are still being investigated. Our correspondent, who witnessed the accident told THENEWSCREDIT that Joshua sustained minor injuries, saying that two people died on the spot. He stated that two people died on the spot. “It was a two-vehicle convoy: a Lexus SUV and a Pajero SUV. Joshua was seated behind the driver, with another person beside him. A few minutes after the crash, officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps arrived. The passenger beside the driver and the person beside Joshua died on the spot,” he said. Fans have flooded social media with messages of concern, while local authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash. Efforts to reach the TRACE Commandant, Akinbiyi Babatunde on further updates about the crash were futile as calls placed to his line did not go through. Meanwhile, the Ogun State Police Command spokesperson, Oluseyi Babaseyi, said in a phone call that he would get back to our correspondent shortly. “I’ve seen the videos too, but I will get back to you on it,” he said. More updates on Joshua’s condition are expected shortly. In a brief statement he later shared with our correspondent about 30 minutes later, he confirmed the crash, noting that “two died, while Joshua and one other have been hospitalised and are receiving treatment at a hospital that would not be disclosed.”

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old housewife named Misturah Bada, and a 30-year-old man, Adedamola Daniel for allegedly staging the lady’s kidnap to extort N2.5 million from her husband who is based in South Africa. The arrest followed investigations into a kidnapping report received by the Command on November 24, 2025. Police spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, said the woman’s husband contacted the police through an emergency line, claiming that his wife had been abducted by armed men who initially demanded a ransom of N10 million but later reduced it to N3 million. According to the police, despite paying N2.5 million, the supposed kidnappers refused to release the woman, prompting intensified investigations by the Command. Adebisi explained that the police deployed both technical and human resources, after which Mrs. Bada was later released and reunited with her family. During questioning, she claimed she was abducted by six armed men in a silver Toyota Venza, taken to an unknown location and relieved of her iPhone 12 Pro Max. She further told investigators that the ransom paid by her husband was first transferred into her bank account before being handed over to the kidnappers. However, police said inconsistencies in her account raised suspicion. On December 3, 2025, operatives arrested Adedamola Daniel in Ede, Osun State. A SIM card linked to the WhatsApp account used for ransom negotiations was recovered from him. Investigators said Daniel confessed that Mrs. Bada asked him to provide a SIM card to open the WhatsApp account used to communicate with the husband and that he shared the one-time password sent to his line, allowing her to control the account. “After being confronted with the findings, Mrs. Bada admitted that she faked her own kidnapping in order to extort money from her husband,” the police said. Further investigations led to the recovery of the iPhone 12 Pro Max earlier reported as stolen. The phone was recovered from one Yusuf Sodiq, 34, who told police that he bought it from Mrs. Bada for N380,000 and was warned not to insert any SIM card into it. Commenting on the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, CP Olohundare Jimoh, cautioned members of the public against false reports and criminal deception, noting that such acts divert security resources from genuine emergencies. The police said investigations are ongoing and that the suspects will be charged to court once it is concluded.

An 18-year-old boy in Adamawa State has confessed to stealing soft drinks to mark his birthday. The boy, Aminu Abdulazeez of Bazza community in Michika LGA, said he carted away half crates of nutri milk and Dudu mineral brand respectively to celebrate his birthday with his friends. He landed in jail after he was trailed and apprehended while he was making further preparation for the event. Aminu made his confession to the Adamawa State Jail Delivery Committee which was on a review visit to where he was being held at the Mubi Correctional Centre. The Area Court I Bazza had sent him to the centre after finding him guilty and sentencing him to three months with option of a N40,000 fine. He had gone to the centre last month after failing to pay the fine. Reviewing his case, the Jail Delivery Committee, headed by the state Chief Judge, Justice Hafsat Abdulrahman, reduced his three months of confinement to three months of community service. The committee ordered that he be taken back to Bazza to sweep public facility, a health centre or police station, for three months.

A three-member family, including a father, mother and their young child, died in a devastating multi-vehicle collision early Wednesday on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority said. Two other victims sustained critical injuries in the accident. According to a statement issued on Wednesday by LASTMA’s Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Adebayo Taofiq, the accident occurred in the early hours near Secretariat, inward Otedola Bridge. The statement read, “The tragic accident instantly claimed the lives of three members of the same family: father, mother and their young child, while two other victims sustained critical injuries, underscoring the devastating consequences of reckless vehicular conduct.” The crash involved three vehicles — an Audi, a Toyota Camry and a Toyota Corolla — after a heavily loaded truck, reportedly speeding, rammed into one of the cars from behind. “The impact caused the vehicle to lose control, colliding with two additional moving vehicles, thereby triggering the fatal chain-reaction accident. “In a disturbing development, the truck driver absconded immediately from the scene with his vehicle, leaving the victims in peril and evading accountability for the fatal incident,” the statement added. LASTMA said its operatives, working with the Lagos State Ambulance Service, rescued the two critically injured victims from the wreckage and transported them to the Lagos State Emergency and Trauma Centre, Toll-Gate, for urgent medical attention. The three deceased were recovered and handed over to the Lagos State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit. Security personnel from the Isheri Olowora Police Division and other agencies, including the Federal Road Safety Corps, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, and Lagos Fire & Rescue Service, supported the rescue operation. LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, described the loss as “unbearable and irreplaceable” and urged motorists to avoid reckless driving, particularly speeding with heavily loaded trucks. He praised the coordinated response of all emergency agencies involved.

‎A yet-to-be-identified student of Ambrose Alli University, AAU, Ekpoma, has reportedly died in an auto crash while celebrating the completion of his final examinations. Our correspondent reports that the incident happened on Monday, December 8, 2025, around Ujoelen Junction along the Ekpoma-Auchi Expressway. It was also gathered that the deceased was part of the motorcade of the fresh graduates who took to the highway after their signing-out activities. ‎ When contacted, the Edo State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Cyril Mathew, confirmed the incident, adding that only one person died while five others who sustained various degrees of injuries were taken to the hospital for treatment. According to him, the students, after writing their last paper, entered the road in a convoy. In the process, one of them overtook another vehicle and rammed into a stationary truck. ‎ Mathew advised students to celebrate within campus areas and to always prioritise safety, noting that “there is life after graduation”. ‎ ‎THENEWSCREDIT learnt that the group failed to observe basic safety rules during the celebration. ‎ It was also gathered that the deceased attempted to overtake a moving truck when he reportedly collided with a stationary vehicle.

A young man from Plateau State identified simply as Nengak, has been reportedly beaten to death by a mob in Lagos State after he was caught “sleeping” with the wife of his employer. According to reports sent to our correspondent by one Bitrus Idi who claims to be a close friend of the deceased, Nengak worked as a security man for a family in the highbrow Victoria Garden City in Lagos. Idi said Nengak who was in his early 20s, was more like a general servant who did everything in the house including cooking, washing cars and taking the couple’s children to school. Idi said from what he gathered, the man of the house was hardly at home as he was always travelling outside the country “Being a handsome, strong and hardworking young guy, his master’s wife had a crush on him and began inviting him for other duties outside what he was employed to do,” Idi said. Idi said the affair had been going on for months before the man of the house discovered through a CCTV camera he set up after getting rumours that his wife was sleeping with their houseboy. “On the day Nengak was beaten to death, the man had pretended that he was traveling outside Lagos. Unknown to Nengak, the man had installed CCTV and had gotten enough evidence. “So that day, he told the wife he was traveling but had invited area boys to hang around the house. As usual, the madam called Nengak to their master bedroom and it was in the process that the man and his gang bust in and caught them red handed. “They beat Nengak to death and till now, the case is still to be filed as we have nobody to fight for him. Nengak’s corpse is still in the mortuary and the police have said we must pay for autopsy and other things,” Idi said.

The Rivers State Police Command has launched an investigation into the death of a seven-year-old girl, Alicia Olajumoke, who was allegedly stabbed to death by her minder in Rumueme, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state. Details of the incident, which occurred on Tuesday, were scanty as of the time of filing this report. However, it was gathered that the minder reportedly committed suicide after realizing the enormity of her actions. Sources said the house help went to the school of her employer’s daughter, picked her up, and took her home before carrying out the act. In a statement on Friday, the police spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, said the toddler’s mother, Glory Joseph, reported the incident to the police. Iringe-Koko added that the seven-year-old girl died before reaching the hospital, where the minder, who also took her own life, was confirmed dead. She further stated that while the corpses of both victims have been deposited at the hospital, the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCID) of the Police Command for a detailed probe. The statement read, “Today, 25th November 2025, one Glory Joseph, female, of No. 21 Okabia Street, Agip Estate, Rumueme, reported at the station that her daughter, Alicia Olajumoke, female, aged seven years, was stabbed to death at about 1400 hours by one Success, female, surname yet to be known. “She (Glory) further said that the suspect went to the school of the deceased, picked her up, took her home, and stabbed her to death. The suspect also inflicted a stab wound on her own throat. “The scene of the crime was visited, and photographs were taken. The victim was rushed to the hospital, where she was confirmed dead. The suspect was also rushed to the same hospital and confirmed dead. “The corpse of the deceased has been deposited at the morgue for autopsy. The case has been transferred to the SCID. Preliminary investigation is ongoing, and further developments will be communicated.” Cases of violent attacks on children by household staff are rare but not unprecedented in Nigeria, raising concerns about vetting and supervision of domestic workers. Bandits have kidnapped a 16-year-old boy and six girls from Gidan-Bijimi in Kawu ward, Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT. A resident of Kawu, Suleiman Shuaibu, confirmed the incident via telephone on Thursday morning, explained that the armed bandits, carrying AK-47 rifles, invaded two houses in the community around 9:47 p.m. on Wednesday, firing sporadically and abducting six young girls and a 16-year-old boy. According to the source, some vigilantes attempted to confront the attackers but were overwhelmed due to the bandits’ superior firepower. Shuaibu also added that the abducted girls are aged between 17 and 23. He said some residents were forced to flee their homes after the incident, even as he said contact is yet to be established with the abductors.
