The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rasidi Adewolu Ladoja, has warned Mogajis (family heads) and Baales (village heads) in Ibadanland against harboring criminals in their domains. Ladoja, a former governor of Oyo State, gave this warning during the installation of new Mogajis and Baales in Ibadanland. The event, which took place at the Olubadan Palace in the Oja Oba area of Ibadan, was held on Monday. THENEWSCREDIT reports that 14 Mogajis and eight Baales were installed. It was attended by Oba Tajudeen Ajibola, Balogun of Ibadanland; Oba Eddy Oyewole, Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland; Oba Kola Adegbola, Otun Balogun of Ibadanland; Oba Abiodun Kola-Daisi, Osi Olubadan of Ibadanland; Oba Abiodun Azeez Agagagugu, Asipa Balogun of Ibadanland; Oba Adebayo Akande, Ekerin Olubadan of Ibadanland; High Chief Akeem Adewoyin, Ekerin Balogun of Ibadanland; and High Chief Sarafadeen Alli, Ekarun Balogun of Ibadanland. Ladoja, while speaking at the event, urged the newly installed traditional title holders and other community leaders to take the security of their communities seriously. The traditional ruler further maintained that security is everybody’s business. He acknowledged that insecurity is one of the problems facing the country. He said, “As family compound and community heads in Ibadan city and less city areas, I am sure you are aware that one of the greatest challenges facing Nigeria is the issue of security. “As grassroots leaders, you need to be vigilant about what is happening in your environment. If it were for glamour alone, this installation exercise would not have been necessary. But it is because of the responsibility attached to it that we are here to formalise your appointment as Mogajis and Baales. Security is everybody’s business.”

A Delta State High Court sitting in the Kwale Judicial Division has sentenced a son and his accomplice to death by hanging for the gruesome murder of a mother. They are 44-year-old Lucky Edozien and his accomplice, 33-year-old Amaechi Enuebuka. The woman, Edozien’s mother, Mrs. Janeth Odinuwe, was accused of witchcraft. The case, HCK/54C/2023 – State vs. Lucky Edozien & Amaechi Enuebuka, concluded on March 25, 2026, with the court convicting both defendants and sentencing them to death by hanging. Justice D.C. Maidoh delivered the judgment after finding the defendants guilty of killing the 70-year-old woman at her home in Umudike Quarters, Ossissa, Ndokwa West Local Government Area, on April 13, 2023. The court held that their actions violated Section 319 of the Criminal Code Law (Cap C21, Vol. 1, Laws of Delta State, 2006). Edozien allegedly claimed he believed a ring worn by his mother was responsible for the hardships he was facing. The court heard that Edozien promised Enuebuka musical instruments in exchange for distracting the deceased’s sister, Mrs. Paulinah Okonji, by pretending to negotiate the purchase of scrap metal located behind the house. The plan allegedly allowed Edozien to enter his mother’s room unchallenged, where he strangled her to death. According to the prosecution, led by Assistant Director of the Delta State Ministry of Justice, Mrs. Catherine Onoberhie-Oberuomo, Edozien conspired with Enuebuka, a motorcyclist and part-time DJ, to murder his mother. Despite the absence of an eyewitness and the refusal of Mrs. Okonji to testify, the prosecution relied on the “Doctrine of Last Seen” and police investigative testimonies to establish the guilt of both men.

The Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has condemned the latest killing of residents in Plateau State, describing the tragedy as another grim reminder of Nigeria’s inability to protect its citizens. In a statement shared on her Facebook page on Monday, the lawmaker decried the persistent violence across Plateau communities, where repeated attacks have claimed dozens of lives in recent months. Addressing the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, Akpoti-Uduaghan referenced the strong assurances he gave during his Senate screening, saying Nigerians are still waiting to see those commitments reflected in real security outcomes. Bandits on motorcycle allegedly slaughtered scores in Jos on Sunday night According to the Plateau State Police Command, the attack claimed the lives of 12 people, which included 10 men and two women. THENEWSCREDIT reports that following the deadly attack, the state government imposed a 48-hour curfew on Jos North Local Government Area in the Angwan Rukuba community, which would take effect from midnight of March 29 to April 1, 2026.The latest incident comes just weeks after at least 20 security operatives and vigilantes were reportedly killed in an ambush in Kanam Local Government Area. Several communities in Plateau and neighbouring states have suffered repeated attacks, kidnappings, and cattle rustling over the years, with residents consistently pleading for stronger security deployment. In 2025, coordinated attacks across communities including Bokkos and Barkin Ladi left more than 100 people dead and displaced thousands. Similarly, on Christmas Eve in 2023, over 140 villagers were killed in a series of assaults that drew national and international condemnation.

The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, on Sunday said many Nigerians might seek a constitutional amendment to allow President Bola Tinubu to remain in office beyond the constitutionally permitted two terms. The monarch, in a congratulatory message issued by his spokesperson, Ibrahim Alli, to mark Tinubu’s 74th birthday, described the President as a decisive leader who has laid a renewed foundation of hope for the country. “Many Nigerians may call for a constitutional review to enable Tinubu to serve more than two terms in office. He is a leader who knows what he is doing,” he said. The Oluwo said the President had distinguished himself through what he described as a firm campaign against illegalities that had stalled the country’s economic growth. He added that the President’s administrative prowess had driven notable gains, citing improvements in the naira, a rise in foreign reserves from about $1bn to between $49.5bn and $50.45bn as of late February/March 2026, and strengthened economic indices. The monarch attributed the gains to structural reforms, including exchange rate unification, increased oil output, and higher foreign investment inflows. The Oluwo also commended Tinubu for granting local government autonomy, increasing allocations to states, expanding road infrastructure, and improving palliative distribution at the grassroots. According to him, past leaders attempted similar economic reforms but were overwhelmed by public and political pressure. He said only a capable leader could implement tough but necessary decisions to reposition the economy. The Oluwo added that the President’s policies had begun to impact the standard of living, noting that the next phase would be stability. He said, “You are not yet a capable leader until you take decisions and stand by them. Many past presidents attempted to remove obstacles to economic prosperity but were overrun by public outcries. A former Governor of Kano State, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has announced his resignation from the New Nigeria People’s Party, citing the need for political realignment. Kwankwaso, who was the party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday He said, “I wish to formally announce my resignation from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) with immediate effect.” The former governor described his exit as a difficult decision, noting his longstanding involvement with the party. “As a committed and bonafide member of the party, this was not an easy decision to make. However, considering the current trajectory of the nation’s political landscape, which calls for strategic realignment, I have found it necessary to identify with another political platform that offers the best opportunity to effectively change the nation,” he said. Kwankwaso expressed appreciation to the party leadership, including the National Chairman, Ajuji Ahmed, and other organs of the party for their support during his time. “I extend my deepest appreciation to the National Chairman, Ajuji Ahmed and the entire National Working Committee for their steadfast support throughout my time. I also thank the Board of Trustees, the National Executive Committee, and all levels of leadership across the party — from the ward to the state level,” he stated. Kwankwaso did not disclose the political platform he intends to join following his resignation. Credible sources in the ADC and NNPP confided in our correspondent that Kwankwaso would make a formal declaration for his new party in Kano. According to a principal official of the ADC who spoke with THENEWSCREDIT on condition of anonymity on Saturday, the National Chairman and Secretary of the party, David Mark and Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, respectively, will welcome the former Kano State governor into the party. THENEWSCREDIT gathered that Kwankwaso was likely to join the ADC alongside the immediate past Deputy Governor of Kano State, Aminu Gwarzo. Recall former presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, and a stalwart of the African Democratic Congress, Atiku Abubakar, on Saturday hosted Kwankwaso, in Abuja. Atiku, in a post via his official X handle, said that Kwankwaso was on a courtesy visit and they both had a robust discussion on the state of the country.

Popular singer and rapper, Jesse Jagz Abaga has expressed concerns over the worsening economic hardship and escalating insecurity in the country. The ‘Bad Girl’ crooner said he can’t fathom the rationale behind the high level of corruption and maladministration among Nigeria’s political class. He said the failure of Nigerian politicians to provide amenities, such as medical facilities to their communities, is why a lot of the same politicians end up “dying like dogs” in foreign hospitals. On his X handle, he wrote, “Imagine getting the chance to change your people’s future, and all you do is steal the money and ship it abroad. “I swear I don’t understand the logic of these Nigerian politicians. That’s why most of them end up dying like dogs in hospitals abroad!” In another post, Jesse Jagz claimed that Nigerian politicians are now serving the interests of foreign governments who installed them as “puppets” instead of the Nigerian citizens. He further alleged that the cost of living in Nigeria became worse since the administration of former United States President Barrack Obama helped the All Progressives Congress, APC, snatched power. The rapper added, “Today’s politicians are no different from the collaborators who helped colonize us, or the ones who sold their own brothers and sisters into slavery. “I was here, alive, watching when Obama and his crew backed Buhari — and life has only gotten worse since.”

The Federal Government has again reaffirmed its commitment to overhaul policing and national security, saying State Police is now essential to confront Nigeria’s changing threats. Minister of Police Affairs, Senator Ibrahim Gaidam, who stated this in Abuja while hosting the Inspector General of Police Steering Committee on the State Police Establishment Framework, tied the plan to the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, arguing that decentralising police commands will sharpen responsiveness, intelligence and grassroots crime-fighting. “The dynamic nature of today’s security landscape demands innovative and localized solutions. State policing is no longer optional—it is imperative,” the minister stated. Gaidam, according to a statement by Fatima Muhammed Adamu of the ministry’s Press & Public Relations Unit, commended the Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu for the swift implementation of policy directives aimed at improving policing efficiency across the country, noting that such proactive leadership demonstrates a shared commitment to safeguarding lives and property nationwide. Earlier, the committee chairman, Prof. Olu Ogunsakin briefed the minister on a ongoing efforts to develop a comprehensive and practical framework for the successful establishment of state police systems. Ogunsakin emphasized that the initiative was designed to deliver a stronger sense of safety and public trust in law enforcement institutions. He added that the IGP fully backs a modern, resilient and community-oriented security architecture able to meet present and future challenges. The meeting marks a significant milestone in the Federal Government’s broader police reform agenda. It underscores ongoing efforts to refine operational frameworks and ensure that the proposed state policing system is efficient, accountable, and responsive to the unique security needs of communities across Nigeria. President Bola Tinubu and members of his cabinet, as well as 32 state governors and 8,453 delegates from across the country, are expected to participate in the National Convention of the All Progressives Congress scheduled for Friday (today) and Saturday in Abuja. In addition, top party chieftains from the national, zonal, state and ward levels will also grace the convention, where new leaders of the party will emerge. The Co-Chairman of the Media sub-committee for the Convention and Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, revealed this during the APC World Media Briefing held at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, on Thursday. Those in attendance include the Minister of Arts, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa; the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo; Pius Ayim, Vice Chairman of the Central Committee; Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, Chief Sunday Dare; Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr Bayo Onanuga; and other top party chieftains. Idris explained that the convention theme, ‘Unity in Progress: Consolidating the Renewed Hope Agenda,’ succinctly captures the party’s identity, its journey so far, and future direction. He stated, “The convention hopes to bring together delegates from across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory for policy engagement, leadership elections, and a formal transition to a new set of party executives, presenting both decision-making platforms and also a moment of reflection, consolidation, and direction-setting for the next phase of our journey. “We are expecting a total of 8,453 delegates. Every detail has been attended to so that the convention proceeds without avoidable disruption.” In his remarks, the Chairman of the APC National Convention Central Coordinating Committee, former Katsina State Governor Aminu Masari, stated that the party operates according to its zoning arrangements and confirmed that they were not aware of any litigation affecting the convention. Masari explained that the 25 sub-committees are so far satisfied with all that has been done. “We assure Nigerians and even those outside Nigeria that the APC is very ready for the 2026 convention, which will start in the early hours of tomorrow (today).” In response to questions on litigation over zoning, the chairman of the APC National Convention Central Coordinating Committee stated that the ruling party is a responsible political organisation in Nigeria, noting that, in accordance with federal character, all offices were zoned. “Like I said, and I will repeat, APC is a responsible party in Nigeria. In line with federal character, all offices are zoned. If you come to buy a form, and you are buying a form, only buy the form zoned to your zone. ‘’When there is zoning in A, and you are in Z, and you want to buy a form in A, we suspect that you are only there to create confusion. So, who likes confusion? The way our country is, the structures of the party are on a zonal basis. The NWC members are distributed according to zones.’’ “So, if you are contesting for an office that is not zoned to your zone, how can you say you are being democratic? We suspect that these kinds of people are interested, maybe as agents, to come and destroy our party, which we will not agree to. And I know Nigerians will not agree. “We are not aware that anybody has gone to court. We have not been served. I am sure you know we are a responsible party. If we are served, we will take notice of that. Can you pay for something that you don’t have? You can only hold something that you have,” he stressed. Ahead of the convention, some party members had accused the ruling party of excluding them from the contest. A party chieftain, Fubara Dagogo, filed a complaint at the Federal High Court in Abuja, protesting his exclusion from the South-South Zonal Congress held in Asaba on Wednesday, 25th March 2026, despite fulfilling all constitutional requirements, including paying N5.1 million for the nomination form. Additionally, Paul Oyiborume made similar allegations against the party leadership, although he has not yet approached the court. Speaking to The THENEWSCREDIT on Thursday night, Dagogo said he would seek redress through the party’s internal mechanism. Dagogo also said that, though the party has yet to reach out to him, he would not be seeking an injunction to stop the convention. “At the moment, I’m still exploring internal party mechanisms to resolve the issue. I believe the issue will be looked into and justice will take its course because the party’s internal mechanism is key to conflict resolution. “Inasmuch as one feels displeasure or feels things are not in accordance with what the Constitution says, one has to look at where one can express one’s displeasure. So, I believe that the party mechanism is looking into the issues for justice to take its course.” Kefas reacts However, the Taraba State Governor and Chairman of the All Progressives Congress National Convention Appeals Committee, Agbu Kefas, expressed confidence that the convention would proceed smoothly. Speaking on Thursday night after the committee’s meeting, Kefas added that they were fully prepared to handle any unforeseen developments. He stated, “I don’t think we are envisaging any problem, but we always have to be prepared. These are processes and procedures for this kind of election. “We are going to the convention, and you cannot completely rule out anything. But with what we have done so far, I think we will have a very hitch-free exercise.” Work from home The Federal Government has directed civil servants working within the Federal Secretariat in Abuja to work from home today as party leaders, delegates, and supporters from across the country descend on Eagle Square. The convention is a key event where party officials are expected to deliberate on internal matters and set the tone for future political activities, including preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections. The directive was contained in a circular issued and signed by Abdul S. U. Garba, Permanent Secretary, Service Welfare Office, for the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation. According to the circular, all access roads leading to and around the Federal Secretariat Complex, Phases I, II and III, will be closed from Friday, March 27, to Saturday, March 28, 2026. “All Ministries, Extra-Ministerial Departments, Agencies and Offices located within the Federal Secretariat, Phases I, II & III are hereby informed of the closure of all access roads leading to and around the said Federal Secretariat Complex, from Friday, 27th to Saturday, 28th March, 2026,” the statement read. The government explained that the measure was necessitated by the use of Eagle Square for the APC national convention. “This is due to the use of Eagle Square for the National Convention of the All Progressives Congress on the said dates,” the circular stated. It further directed that workers in affected offices should stay off-site on the specified day. “Accordingly, all personnel whose offices are located within Phases I, II and III of the Federal Secretariat Complex, as well as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, are to work from home on Friday, 27th March, 2026,” it added. The government also tasked heads of ministries, departments and agencies to ensure strict compliance with the directive. “All concerned Permanent Secretaries and Heads of Agencies are kindly requested to bring the content of this Circular to the attention of their staff, and ensure strict compliance,” the circular stated. Meanwhile, workers were seen decorating Eagle Square, the convention venue, while most roads leading to the venue are decorated with billboards welcoming delegates to the convention. Less than 24 hours to the convention, hotels and guesthouses in the FCT have recorded high patronage as delegates and party faithful besieged the capital city. Checks by our correspondents indicate that all the top hotels, including Transcorp Hilton, NICON Luxury, Hotel Continental, Reiz Hotel and others have been fully booked. Also, budget hotels whose rooms go for between N50,000 and N80,000 recorded high patronage, with many delegates having to settle for guest houses outside the city centre.

Aso A, a community located near Jumai Estate in Mararaba, a boundary area between Abuja and Nasarawa State, has been attacked by suspected herdsmen, leaving several persons dead and many others injured. THENEWSCREDIT gathered that the attack, which began on Wednesday morning, has so far claimed no fewer than six lives, although the exact number of casualties remains unconfirmed. Sources told THENEWSCREDIT that the violence was triggered by an earlier clash between a farmer and a herder, which reportedly led to the death of the herder. The farmer, whose identity is yet to be established, was said to have fled shortly after the incident. In apparent retaliation, suspected herdsmen reportedly stormed the residence of the fleeing farmer, attacking residents indiscriminately and setting houses ablaze. The situation escalated when community members attempted to resist the attackers, resulting in further destruction of property and loss of life. A video obtained by THENEWSCREDIT shows several houses engulfed in flames, while the body of one of the victims was seen being transported in a wheelbarrow to a nearby hospital. A resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the entire community has been deserted, with many residents fleeing to neighbouring areas in Abuja and other safer locations. As of the time of filing this report, a combined team of police and military personnel had been deployed to the area to restore order. Meanwhile, a motorcyclist transporting a police officer to the scene was reportedly ambushed and killed by the attackers. Although the exact death toll is yet to be officially confirmed, a community leader said tension remains high in Mararaba amid reports that more armed herdsmen may have been mobilised from Keffi for possible reprisal attacks. Efforts to obtain an official response from the Divisional Police Officer of Aso A Police Division were unsuccessful, as the female Divisional Police Officer (DPO), who answered our call, declined to comment on the incident.
