President Bola Tinubu on Thursday declared that his administration inherits problems and challenges to solve them and not to abandon them. Tinubu disclosed this during the commissioning of the newly constructed Airport Expressway to Kuje road to mark his third year anniversary. Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, Tinubu said the road commissioning was a fulfilment of his promise. He said: “Today we are not just commissioning a road but we are keeping a promise. Three years ago we took an oath to serve you, we pledged to end the era of abandoned projects and Today FCT Highway 105 has stand as proof that we keep our words. “Let me be very clear that the present administration does not inherit problems to abandon them. We inherit challenges to solve them. “To appreciate the significance of this moment we must recall why we started. This road was awarded in 2022 and little progress was made. “It became a symbol of frustration as gridlock for businesses, dust in the dry seasons, and muds in the rains.” Tinubu also disclosed that he appointed Nyesom Wike as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, to deliver projects. “Therefore, when I appointed Wike as the FCT Minister, I did so because he delivers and while there were delays he brought political will, while there were obstructions we paid compensations, we respected the law and valued progress,” he added.

Demola Olarenwaju, the Special Assistant on Digital Media Strategy to the African Democratic Congress, ADC, presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has disclosed that President Bola Tinubu’s biggest achievement as president is making Nigerians poorer. Olarenwaju said Tinubu has increased poverty in Nigeria that his predecessor, the late former President Muhammadu Buhari now looks like a saint. He spoke during an interview session on Vanguard’s Politics Hub, where he tagged Tinubu’s administration as “360-degree failure” in all sectors. According to Olarenwaju: “Tinubu’s biggest achievement is making Nigeria poorer, and it’s because of the instability of the economy. Bola Tinubu has made poverty worse; he has made Buhari look like a saint. “I read someone who wrote that he misses Buhari, and I thought, ‘how can someone miss Muhammadu Buhari? “But I then I thought about it, the price I buy liters of petroleum under Buhari is now almost ten times costlier under Tinubu’s government. That is not friendly to my pocket and not friendly to the pocket of any Nigerian.”

The founder of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, Pastor William Folorunso Kumuyi, has said that rumors about him passing leadership of the church to one of his sons are not true. Kumuyi made it known that the ministry is for Jesus Christ and not for his family. During a church service, Kumuyi mentioned that some people suggesting one of his sons might take over his role in the future were wrong. He emphasized that the church is not his personal property and cannot be passed down through family lines. Some people had asked if he would look for one of his kids and help them get ready to lead the ministry. He said: “Many people were wondering if he was going to give the church to his son. Won’t he look for his first son, his second son, where are they? Where do they live? “Isn’t he going to give up the church?” Kumuyi asked. The cleric refused the idea, saying the church belongs only to Jesus Christ and that its leaders should be chosen by God, not by family connections. ‎ ‎ He added: “Well, it’s not his church. And since it wasn’t his church, Jesus said, ‘Upon this rock, I will build my church.’ “It’s the church of the Lord Jesus Christ, and no one has the right to give it to his son.” Kumuyi also stated that biblical people like Peter, Paul, and John, never gave the church to their sons during their time. “Peter did not give the church to his son. Paul didn’t have a son or a wife, but he didn’t pass the church on to his son. “And John didn’t give the church to his son,” he further added.

LOKOJA — Tragedy struck the Iluke-Bunu community in Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State on Wednesday morning when heavily armed bandits stormed Government Secondary School, killing three people, including the school’s Vice Principal, Mr. Gani Anifowose. The audacity of the attack, which occurred at approximately 9:00 AM while students were actively writing the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), has thrown the entire local government area into a state of panic and mourning. Eyewitnesses reported that the terrorists, some disguised in military camouflage, marched into the community and directly targeted the school premises. Pandemonium broke out as students, invigilators, and residents scrambled for safety amidst a hail of gunfire. While the primary motive of the heavily armed invaders appeared to be a mass abduction of the WASSCE candidates, they met stiff resistance from local security networks. Tragically, before the attackers could be repelled, they shot and killed the Vice Principal, Mr. Anifowose, along with two other yet-to-be-identified members of the community. A bloodbath and a catastrophic mass kidnapping were narrowly averted thanks to the swift, coordinated response of the Nigerian Army troops stationed at the Suku-Kiri Bunu axis, working in tandem with local vigilantes and hunters. Upon receiving a distress call, the combined security forces rushed to the scene and engaged the bandits in a fierce, protracted gun battle. Outgunned and facing heavy fire, the terrorists were forced to retreat into the nearby thick forests, abandoning their plans to take any students hostage. THENEWSCREDIT reports confirm that all students and examination officials were successfully rescued and accounted for without any injuries. Reacting to the incident, the Kogi State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Hon. Kingsley Femi Fanwo, strongly condemned the attack, describing it as an assault on the future of the state. He praised the bravery of the military personnel and the local hunters who risked their lives to protect the children. "Our security architecture proved resilient today, but we mourn the loss of dedicated citizens, including a school administrator," Fanwo stated. "The state government will not fold its arms. Security agencies are already combing the bushes, and we will ensure the perpetrators of this heinous crime are hunted down and brought to justice." This deadly raid is the latest in a worrying surge of violent crimes along the border communities of Kogi and Kwara states. Only nine days prior, on June 1, suspected terrorists intercepted a commercial transit bus in the nearby Ayegunle Bunu community, killing two people and abducting 30 passengers. Local community leaders and youth groups have intensified calls on the Federal Government to establish permanent military checkpoints and increase troop deployments to secure vulnerable rural schools across the state.

The Gombe State Police Command has arrested a 35-year-old man identified as Musa Adamu, for allegedly attacking his girlfriend with a hammer, attempting to strangle her, and robbing her of ₦100,000 in Gombe. The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, disclosed in a statement that the suspect, a resident of Riyal Quarters, was arrested following a complaint lodged by the victim at the Pantami Divisional Police Headquarters. He said the victim reported that at about 2:00 a.m., the suspect allegedly gained unlawful access to her residence by scaling the fence and forcefully broke into her room. The statement said the victim sustained serious injuries during the attack and was immediately taken to a hospital after police operatives visited the scene, adding that upon receipt of the complaint, police operatives promptly visited the scene, while the victim was evacuated to a hospital for medical attention, where she was treated and later discharged. He said police recovered an iron hammer suspected to be stained with blood and a USB cable believed to have been used during the attack. The Command further revealed that preliminary investigations showed the suspect had earlier requested money from the victim, who is a businesswoman, but she declined. The suspect remained in police custody while investigations continue, adding that he will be charged to court upon conclusion of the investigation. Abdullahi reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property and urged residents to promptly report suspicious persons and criminal activities to the nearest police station.

A man identified as Ofofon and his girlfriend were arrested by the police on Tuesday after they allegedly killed the friend of the man’s girlfriend and sold her body parts. The man, said to be from Ini Local Government Area in Akwa Ibom State but residing at Afokang by Jebbs Street in Calabar South, killed and butchered the girl and delivered the body parts to buyers in the middle of the night. “The man’s girlfriend, who sells at a chemist on Monday, lured one of her friends to stay the night in their house, and at night, the duo killed the girl and butchered her into parts. They thought the rain that had been trying to fall would fall and sweep the blood away, but the rain did not fall again, so in the morning, the blood from the pipe in the apartment leading to the drain was filled with blood, and neighbours suspected something terrible had happened and called the police” Theresa, a resident of the area, told THENEWSCREDIT. She said a minibus picked up the man at about 2.00 am and brought him back that same night. “He owns three mini buses. One of those buses came to pick him up at about 2.00 am, apparently to deliver the body parts, and brought him back,” the source stated She said the girl claimed that the man locked her up in his room before killing the girl, but that could be just a statement to try to extricate herself from the murder. “The man had three kids from the ex-wife, but the woman took the children and ran away a long time ago, which shows that the man had been into evil practice business for a long time”. She said the man owns a provision shop up the same street and that “some time ago, he tried to use his mother for ritual, and the thing backfired. The mother then packed and went to live at State Avenue, a short distance away from the man, and does not visit him “ The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, confirmed the arrest of the couple over suspicion of murder. Investigation is ongoing.

As part of preparations for the state’s planned mass wedding, the Kano State Hisbah Board has announced that nearly 720 prospective couples have so far undergone medical screening across 24 local government areas. The figure forms part of the 3,000 prospective couples the state intends to marry soon in a state-sponsored mass wedding for the less privileged. THENEWSCREDIT recalls that the Hisbah Board, in collaboration with the State Ministry of Health, has been mandated to conduct mandatory tests for HIV/AIDS, hepatitis B, genotype compatibility, drug use, pregnancy, and other sexually transmitted infections to ensure healthy unions. The Deputy Commander-General of the Board, Mujahideen Aminudddeen, confirmed the development in a statement, saying the exercise is ongoing, with couples from metropolitan local government areas scheduled to continue their screening on Wednesday at the Kano State Agency for the Control of AIDS (KSACA) office along Naibawa. He explained that participants are expected to present copies of their registration forms at the venue, adding that couples from the remaining local government areas will be notified of their screening dates in due course. The mass wedding programme, revived under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, is designed to support widows, divorcees, orphans, and other less-privileged residents by covering marriage expenses and providing financial and household support.

FIFA has confirmed that referee, Omar Artan from Somalia, will not officiate at the 2026 World Cup after he was denied entry into the United States. In a statement on Monday, the world football governing body explained that Artan will be unable to train or officiate, following the decision by US authorities. “FIFA is not involved in host country immigration processes, including visa adjudications, and has been informed by authorities that Mr Artan’s status will not be changed at present,” it read in part. The statement added that it is the host government that ultimately determines who receives a visa and who is admitted into their country. Artan, who has been on FIFA’s refereeing list since 2018, was denied entry into America despite holding a valid visa. He has officiated at the Africa Cup of Nations and has received CAF award recognition as one of Africa’s top referees in recent years.

The International Monetary Fund, has cautioned the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu against proceeding with the proposed $5 billion borrowing arrangement with the First Abu Dhabi Bank of the United Arab Emirates under the Total Return Swap, financing structure. The warning was issued on Tuesday by the IMF Resident Representative for Nigeria, Christian Ebeke, during the presentation of the Fund’s 2026 Article IV Consultation Report on Nigeria. According to the IMF, the proposed financing arrangement is opaque and could expose Nigeria to significant financial risks. Ebeke explained that such structures often lack transparency and may leave participating countries vulnerable to losses if the value of underlying assets declines or exchange rates move unfavorably. “We say in the report, and our view is that the transaction and these types of structures carry risks. Usually, they are opaque. So, the terms are not always very transparent when we review these instruments across countries,” he said. He further warned that the arrangement could trigger additional liabilities under certain market conditions. “They also carry risk, as we flag in the report, the margin calls in the case that the value of the asset drops or the currency depreciates.” Ebeke added that the Fund had limited information on the specific transaction but maintained its concerns. “At this point, we don’t have any further information on the TRS. But our view is that it carries risk, and it’s important to monitor those risks very, very carefully,” he stated. Nigeria’s Senate had, in April 2026, approved the TRS agreement, placing the country among African nations such as Senegal and Angola that have adopted similar borrowing arrangements.

Veteran Nigerian actor, Abdul Salam Taofeek, professionally known as Tioruju Mondusi, has shared his most painful experience in life. The actor made the sad experience public during in an interview on African A-List podcast. When asked if there’s anyone who had offended him and he hasn’t forgiven because of the pain, he said, “The only person that did the most painful thing to me in life is my wife. The incident brought tears from my eyes. She’s late now, may God forgive her. “I went to a location about five years ago and I didn’t meet her at home when I returned. As at the time, she was nine months pregnant with our fifth child. I was unable to reach her on the phone to know her whereabouts until two days later when her number went through. After getting in touch with her she refused to tell me her whereabouts. “It was when I visited her mother’s house to complain that I realized she had done an introduction with another man who is already married with four kids. After seeing the photo frame, I called to abuse her. That was when she returned to the house to abuse me and asked who told me that I’m the owner of the pregnancy. “She gave birth a few days later and requested to do the naming ceremony in my house after she had openly said the baby is not mine. That was when I got angry and arrested her alongside the man and his friend that came to beg me. “Following my refusal to allow the naming to take place at my compound, she took me to court for the dissolution of our marriage. It was in the court that she confessed that the third and the last child were not mine. She has been going out with the man for many years. She died last year from depression after the man she left me for later abandoned her to face his family because he is already married with four children before the incident. He is from Ijebu in Ogun State.”
