A renowned firmmaker, Lere Paimo, popularly known as “Eda Onile Ola,” on Wednesday, called on Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Enoch Adeboye and other well-to-do individuals in Nigeria to save him from being allegedly cheated over his long, originally produced “Ogbori Elemosho”. He made this call during a press conference held in Ibadan, the state capital. The classic Yoruba film “Ogbori Elemosho,” starring legendary actor Paimo, gained fame and was a significant epic released around the early 1980s. However, some sources suggest it was a key work in the 1960s that built his reputation, establishing a historical drama genre in Nollywood. The renowned filmmaker insisted that he was the original producer of Ogbori Elemosho, a work he described as pivotal to his career and legacy. He said, “The film earned me national recognition, including the award of the Member of the Order of the Federal Republic, and contributed to my chieftaincy title of Are Arobajo of Ogbomoso, conferred by the late Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Oyewumi Ajagungbade II. “The current Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Olaoye, had earlier approached me with a proposal to remake Ogbori Elemosho and requested information on the cost implications. “He estimated the project at about N100 million, after which the monarch suggested that the production could go beyond that budget and requested changes to the script, promising to revert.” The filmmaker alleged that in October 2025, someone, alongside others, visited his residence and claimed they had received approval from the Soun of Ogbomoso to remake the film. “They told me they did not need my permission to remake the movie and that they only wanted to give me a ‘gift’ for the work,” he stated. He further alleged that the group subsequently paid N7.5 million into his bank account, a development his children reportedly described as manipulation and robbery. “Following their advice, I immediately returned the money to the group,” he said. He explained that his legal counsel later issued a cease-and-desist letter to the studio, warning against proceeding with the remake without his express approval. Despite this, he stressed that the parties insisted they had the monarch’s backing and allegedly threatened that legal action would not yield justice for him. Describing the situation as an attempt to destroy his legacy, the veteran Nollywood actor said the original production of Ogbori Elemosho came at great personal cost, leaving him heavily indebted and leading to the seizure of his car at the time. He added, “This work was meant to be a benefit to my children and me, but powerful individuals are attempting to take it away from me. “I want to appeal to Governor Makinde, Pastor Enoch Adeboye of the RCCG, the Commissioner of Police in this state, and sons and daughters of Ogbomoso at home and abroad to intervene in the matter.” He also called on well-meaning Nigerians to help protect him from what he described as injustice at his old age, adding that he suspects those involved might be connected to recent rumours of his death circulating on social media. When our correspondent contacted the Public Relations Officer to the Soun, Peter Olaleye, he said, “The issue, you know, is an in-house matter; Baba (Eda Onile Ola) is one of the Chiefs in Ogbomoso. Baba was contacted when the story was to be released. He was contacted, and he was officially written to. The crew even visited his house. “The issue is that of Ogbomoso, and every bona fide son and daughter of Ogbomoso is entitled to the story. “So, the story belongs to Ogbomoso, and the story they are even making now is not his own story. It is a new story entirely. The bone of contention is that it’s an in-house matter.”

The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade, is set to install Seyi, the son of President Bola Tinubu, as the “Okanlomo of Yorubaland” on Saturday. The monarch on the same occasion will also install Senator Abdul’Aziz Yari representing Zamfara West as the “Obaloyin of Yorubaland”. In the flier, the monarch and his wife, Ayaba Abiwumi Owoade, invited the general public to the said installation and implored them to save the date of the event scheduled to hold on Saturday, December 21, 2025. “Okanlomo of Yorubaland” is a prestigious Yoruba title meaning “the one dear to the hearts of all Yoruba people” or “beloved child,” signifying deep affection and importance to the race. Confirming the chieftaincy installation to our correspondent in a telephone conversation on Wednesday, the Alaafin’s media aide, Bode Durojaiye, said it is true and that the event will hold as planned. He affirmed that the press statement for the said event would be made available to journalists any time soon. “Yes, it is true. Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have arrested an Osun-based Islamic cleric, Sheikh Daood Imran Molaasan, following a pro-Palestine protest held in the state, according to Western Post. Sheikh Molaasan, who leads the Ta’awunu Muslimeen group, was reportedly taken into custody after a video surfaced online showing him and his followers calling for the liberation of Palestine, which they described as being under Israeli occupation. The footage, which showed members of the group marching and raising the Palestinian flag, quickly went viral and triggered widespread debate on social media. While many expressed solidarity with the Palestinian cause, others raised security concerns over the activities and methods of the group. The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, has challenged the federal and state governments to wake up to their duty of securing the nation and the people. The NLC, leading affiliate unions in a street protest in Adamawa State on Wednesday, said no Nigerian is safe anywhere. President of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, Comrade Muhammad Ibrahim, who represented the NLC President at the Yola protest, said, “Our students are not safe; our farmers are not secured; we can’t sleep in our homes.” He added that while many families lose their loved ones to kidnappers because they have no money for ransom, some other families sell all they possess to pay ransom and then slip into greater socio-economic vulnerability in a country where the level of poverty is already very high. He stressed that the scourge of insecurity is tearing the nation apart, adding, “Government at all levels must wake up to their primary responsibility of securing our people.”

Revelations have emerged on why the late former President Muhammadu Buhari refused to endorse his ex-Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo as his successor. Buhari did not support Osinbajo’s presidential ambition in 2022 because he never knew his former Vice President. In his biography, “From Soldier to Statesman: The Legacy of Muhammad Buhari”, authored by Dr Charles Omole, the late former President was quoted as saying he only met Osinbajo through President Bola Tinubu. According to the book, Buhari was surprised that Osinbajo would contest against Tinubu during the 2022 All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential election. The book, which was launched at the presidential Villa on Tuesday quoted Buhari as saying, “I don’t know Osinbajo from anywhere, I met him only through Tinubu.” Osinbajo is widely believed to be among those Tinubu groomed when he was governor of Lagos State. He was Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice of Lagos State while Tinubu was governor. During the buildup to the 2015 presidential election, Tinubu is believed to have suggested Osinbajo to Buhari as his running mate.

Fatima Buhari, daughter of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, has said that her father, at one point, believed his office in the Presidential Villa was under secret surveillance. The disclosure is contained in a new book, From Soldier to Statesman: The Legacy of Muhammadu Buhari, written by the Director-General of the Institute for Police and Security Policy Research, Dr Charles Omole, and unveiled in Abuja on Monday. Fatima, in the book, stated that the suspicion led her and her late father to communicate by writing notes rather than speaking. According to Fatima, there were occasions when Buhari feared conversations in his office were being monitored, prompting unusual precautions during their interactions. She recalled one such meeting in which her father avoided speaking altogether and instead relied on gestures to communicate, signalling that they should write down their messages. “He touched his cheek, like he had a toothache, and signalled that we shouldn’t talk. “We wrote notes to each other, like spies in a film,” she said. Fatima said the former president believed listening devices had been planted in his office at the Villa and warned her to remain cautious, noting that he himself was always on guard. The book describes the episode not as theatrics, but as a coping mechanism in an environment where trust was strained and privacy uncertain. More troubling, the account suggests, was Buhari’s apparent resignation to the situation, despite his position as Commander-in-Chief. The Yoruba Council of Elders has stated that the state of insecurity in Nigeria cannot be tackled by the government alone, urging citizens to actively support efforts aimed at curbing the menace across the country. The elders made the call during a courtesy visit by the leadership and members of the state chapters of the council to the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi, at the Arole Oodua Palace, Ile-Ife, Osun State. In recent times, Nigeria has recorded a fresh wave of mass abductions and violent attacks across Niger, Kebbi, and Kwara states. The killings and general state of insecurity also led United States President Donald Trump to designate Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern over alleged Christian persecution. The YCE delegation, led by its President, Jibade Oyekan, in a statement on Tuesday, identified insecurity as the most pressing challenge currently confronting the country, stressing that “this should not be left in the hands of government alone.” “Going forward, therefore, all Nigerians must participate in curbing the menace of insecurity collectively to eradicate it,” a statement read. The elders also urged the government to ensure that traditional rulers are allowed to fully deploy their influence and capacity to combat insecurity within their respective communities. On indigenous land ownership and its use by non-indigenous interests in Yorubaland, the council reminded landowners to be mindful of the importance of land ownership to national identity. It stressed that options other than the outright sale of land should be explored in Yorubaland. According to the elders, serious consideration must be given to the culture of land ownership and acquisition by strangers to ensure that future generations are not disadvantaged. They warned that Yorubaland and the Yoruba people must avoid falling into what they described as the trap of the current Palestinian debacle. “It was proposed that the lease of land space should be explored, as was the case between the Chinese and Britain in the lease of Hong Kong to the British in the 19th century. “To achieve this goal, it is important to give serious consideration to the issue of the culture of land ownership and acquisition by strangers, to the extent that future generations will not lose out. “Yorubaland and the Yoruba people must not fall into the trap of the current Palestinian debacle!” the statement read. The council further resolved that both the federal and state governments should revisit the constitutional roles of traditional rulers in land administration “as a means of stabilising the polity, eliminating polarisation and its attendant effects of partisan politics.” The visit also provided an opportunity for the elders to offer prayers for the Ooni of Ife as he marked his 10th anniversary on the throne, wishing him more grace and many fruitful years under divine guidance.

Abia South Senator, Enyinnaya Abaribe, has accused President Bola Tinubu of incompetence in running the government, stressing that former Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi will do better. Abaribe disclosed that Tinubu’s administration had become what he referred to as “Kabiyesi” government. The lawmaker disclosed this while featuring on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday night. According to Abaribe: “There are many Nigerians who are democrats who can run this country like Peter Obi and he will be my candidate. We are all headed somewhere and it’s when we get there that we will all cross that hurdle. “The point is not him but the way the whole government has turned into a Kabiyesi government, so the president can do no wrong, anything he says we agree. “That’s not how to run a government; you run a government by people challenging your view. Right now, any view challenging the view of the government is seen as treason.” Abaribe faulted the involvement of Tinubu’s family in the running of his administration, stressing that Nigeria is a democratic state and not a monarchy. He said: “But the point is when you look at somebody’s antecedents, how the person carried himself; throughout when Peter Obi was governor, did you ever hear about his children? Did you ever hear about his wife? “No, this is a country not a monarch, this is a democracy. You don’t put your family in the public, you don’t let them continue to use State resources, it’s never done.” Abaribe also dismissed claims of singing the popular “on your mandate” song in respect of Tinubu. He added: “I don’t think the people standing on the mandate really enjoy standing on the mandate, I have never sang and I will never sing it. “When they bring the budget to the National Assembly, we stand up for the Nigerian national anthem and if people decide to play the mandate song, check where I stay, I sit down, I don’t follow them.”
