BENISHEIKH, In a devastating blow to the Nigerian Armed Forces, Brigadier General Oseni O. Braimah, the Commander of the 29 Task Force Brigade under Operation HADIN KAI, has been killed in action. The senior officer lost his life during a ferocious terrorist attack on a military installation in Benisheikh, located in Kaga Local Government Area of Borno State, during the early hours of Thursday, April 9, 2026. Reports indicate that militants launched a coordinated midnight ambush on the base, setting fire to military assets and engaging troops in intense combat. Local sources and intelligence reports suggest that at least 18 soldiers, including Brigadier General Braimah, were killed in the encounter. The death of Brigadier General Braimah follows another high-ranking officer loss, reminiscent of the killing of Brigadier General Musa Uba in late 2025, marking a concerning escalation in targeted assaults on senior command leadership by militants. The Defence Headquarters (DHQ), through a statement by Major General Michael Onoja, confirmed a “coordinated terrorist attack” on the base at approximately 12:30 am on Thursday. While the DHQ noted that troops “decisively engaged” the insurgents and forced a retreat, they initially did not confirm the identity of the senior officer killed, urging the public to wait for formal notification of next of kin. However, local officials, including Kaga Local Government Chairman Zannah Lawan Ajimi, verified the death of the commander, calling it a massive loss to the security architecture of the region. This attack, which also reportedly affected the Ngamdu area, underscores the continued threats posed by extremist groups in the northeast, despite intensified military efforts.
